No I'd say you can just keep it as is otherwise a lot of the follow ups don't make sense, just make a new thread for your actual problem.

Hello, I decided to down Arch Linux as Windows 11 got me stuck in a boot loop. Spent weeks trying everything and nothing worked not even redownloading windows 11.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Well hello there everyone.
It's been 5 years almost since I tried to install arch for the first time.

Oh, the fresh smell of a fresh, clean and highly customizable distro with a touch of ILoveCandy is what keeps me here.
I can't do much, but I will visit this https://archlinux.org/donate/ every time I get the chance to.
The people that make arch possible deserve at least a beer.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi, new to Arch, long time linux/unix user.

started with HPUX, then to mandrake as first linux, after that some debian and then Ubuntu as a main driver. Using Debian/CentOS as a server distros.

Comming from Ubuntu, it was a bumpy ride to setup things properly, mostly as i implied that something will be installed already and didnt read docs thoroughly wink

For now, very happy with the switch. Generaly feels faster and more stable than Ubuntu. Only problems now are Nvidia/Wayland related, so i needed to switch to Xorg for now, till this combination matures more (mostly problem with non-native apps, electron/msteams).

I do game alot (Steam) and this works ok even on Wayland/XWayland

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Just to say hi

I am a 76 year old from South London and needed a distraction from no grandchildren.  Undertook to construct a UDOO Bolt Gear computer and install Arch.  Succeeded at last it was n+1 steps forward and n steps back, where 'n' is a (very) large number. Have KDE Plasma GUI which I really like.  So much so that I am buying the T Shirt, from a company that promises to donate something to Arch Linux.

Have installed some fonts, converted the keyboard to UK,and installed the common set of applications (Firefox, libreoffice, vlc and so on).  Hoping to get programming again in Fortran and (if it ever arrives) Modula 2 plus ambitions to set up Windows 7 and Mac OSX 6.8 from Virtual Box.

Wish me luck!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone!

Took me ages to finally make an account, mostly because the documentation is so good I never had any major issues, but might as well use this opportunity to thank the Arch devs and community members for this awesome project!
Back when i switched to Linux as a Windows power user, "not knowing everything" felt incredibly frustrating, while many distributions provided perfectly fine user experiences, I had trouble finding resources to learn.
Arch gave me both the platform and the resources (though very daunting at first ngl haha) and remains my main system to this day, for which I can only thank all of you guys ^^

On a side note, the overall Linux user experience has improved so greatly in the recent years I can hardly believe it, what used to be reserved for the dedicated and tech-savvy, now runs on every computer in my family.

And to all the new users out here, happy hacking ^^

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello all.

I've been a Linux user for about 4 years now (after trying but coming away unsatisfied about 12 years ago). During that time I've used Mint, Debian, and, more than anything else, Ubuntu. Recently I got an itch to try something else, and spent a long time reading the Arch Wiki before chickening out and trying to install Fedora. When I couldn't get it working properly (probably left some Ubuntu configs lying around in my /home that interfered with something), I took the hint, and now here I am with a new Arch install.

I'm looking forward to learning a whole bunch of stuff my previous OSes didn't even expect me to be aware of, and I hope eventually I can be useful in this community, too.

Archwiki is the icing on the cake, and IMHO, it's the most comprehensive Linux resource on  the web.
When I ran some Debian-based distros in the past, the search results kept leading to Archwiki.

Yep. Ubuntu has a great community and pretty good documentation, but it is nowhere near as thorough as the Arch Wiki. That's a big part of what brought me to Arch - the fact that this community has really contributed a ton of knowledge to the Linux community as a whole.

That and the logo. I mean, no other distro's logo can compete with the Arch logo.

Awesome. I remember seeing similar discussions about the Debian logo, but I don't think anyone ever said that one looks like a nipple. LOL.

Hi, I'm new here. I've been wanting to use Arch for a while, but I had no knowledge about Linux, so I used Manjaro since a year ago. Now I decided to make the change and finally use Arch. Greetings from Argentina.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

After a long distro-hopping, I finally feel at home with Arch, it's hard not to find something you need in the official repositories and AUR, I love the idea of a rolling system and I find pacman to be the best package manager around, hello to all the Archers!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Greeting World !

I started my Linux journey earlier this year (Jan 2022) with Manjaro / Feroda. Distro hopped a few  times.
I installed Arch standard (base version) on 23rd Feb 2022, first with an  inbuild installer, then w/o the installer.

I want to thank the youtuber learnlinux tv , average linux user, DistroTube and EF Linux Made simple for helping me with journey.
Many thanks Arch wiki for explaining the concepts so succinctly, especially stuff like bootloader (Grub) UEFI, bash,  gparted,  pacstrap, bluetooth drivers etc much more.

Many thanks to those who are contributing to the ARCH WIKI

Try Arch !

If an absolute noob and fool like me can do it, anyone can smile

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello Everyone,

I'm from Sri Lanka, 30 years old. I'm a front-end developer and I've used Windows and macOS quite a lot, rarely Linux. I installed Arch on my laptop last week, still trying to get my head around quite a few things. So far I'm glad I did try Arch Linux. Even though the installation process was a bit difficult and took some time, was a great experience and learnt quite a few things also.

I highly appreciate everyone who puts their effort and time into building FOSS stuff.

I'm looking forward to getting to know more people from the community and supporting them while I learn new stuff.

Thanks. Cheers

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi there,

I'm backend developer, mostly using ruby/elixir.
I'm a current MacOS user, also using Windows for games, entertaining, etc.
Heard of Arch multiple times from different people, but I've never given myself to try it. Just finished installation with basic setup with dwm. Already encountered some problems, so will definitely post to the forum.
Arch seems cool and well configurable, excited with this new tool.

See you on the forum and thanks! smile
