Arch logo meaning

I have been wondering for a while what it depicts graphically and whether it has any official meaning/interpretation?

AFAIC, all I can see of is a silhouette of a wide-shouldered man with a pointy triangle in the background. Meaning? Perhaps an echo of total world domination theme found around the community, but really no idea.

Is it? Can't get rid of strong association that it looks a lot like thin, metal, sharp, pointy thing. Sort of like spear tip.

He's on to us.  Our plan to infiltrate all computer and electronic equipment in the world and disable it so only those of us who have stocked up on sharp spears could take over the world.  Damn, foiled again.

OK, cool, so I'm trying to put this together... Arch Linux means Top Linux, like utmost, as in arch enemy, right? And an arrowhead, as used by archers. Does it represent dexterity of the distro, or something. I'm just trying to read the hidden meaning lol If there's any, that is...

Re: Arch logo meaning

arch   a curve (noun) or to curve (verb). From the Latin arcus.  Two related English words are 'archer' and 'arc'.
        The bridge arched overhead.
arch-  archi-  arche-   first or foremost.  From the Greek arché or árchos, beginning or leader.
        architect, archenemy, archconservative

I think the logo and name play on the double entendre of those two definitions.  "The common computer technology abbreviation where 'arch' stands for architecture may also have come into play," he said archly.

Re: Arch logo meaning

Always thought of the Arrowhead to represent "on the cutting edge" or to "spear head" as in, the latest, first, etc.

Which would kinda explain the whole rolling release thing huh?

Still, as George Carlin said: Symbols are for symbol-minded people.

Re: Arch logo meaning

It looks like a nipple to me. hmm

Edit: Especially if you put two logo's together. But wide shouldered man... that's a good one also, didn't see that at first.

Re: Arch logo meaning

I always thought the Arch-Logo is a symbolical phallus.
(Remember that daVinci Code book/movie?)

Guess, humour is dead in this thread big_smile
When I read about the nipple, I had to think of that daVinci-Code-thingy, were they state, that every V-shape symbolizes a vagina and and every A-shape a phallus. D

Re: Arch logo meaning

When did the Illuminati become satanic?
Or is it just the "you are no fundamentalist christ, so you are satanic"-satanic?

I'll stick with the phallus, cuz this works out: Arch is a mighty tool and while lots of people still think bigger is better, adepts know it's not the size that matters, it's how you use it.

Re: Arch logo meaning

It's a logo of deep spiritual significance.

The A stands for coming first and being the best
The arrowhead stands for precision and bleeding edge
The arch signifies it's the gate to enlightenment
The cracks warn us that sometimes things may still go wrong
The silhouette of a couch potato reminds us that, individually, we may still be kinda lame.
