I get no signal on my monitor when I connect it to my laptop with HDMI. The monitor is detected but I get nothing on the screen. Also when I use HDMI all the bars on my laptop screen disappear and just the windows remain. They reappear when I unplug the cable. I have a Lenovo g500 laptop with a double AMD/integrated Intel graphics. On windows it all works fine. Here is xrandr output:

Using
xrandr --output HDMI1 --same-as LVDS1
Now I don't have disappearing bars on the laptop screen anymore, but I still get nothing on the external monitor.
Update:
OK, now I managed to get output on the monitor by adding a custom resolution. The problem is that all bars and menus have totally gone (???) Also on the external monitor the desktop icons don't load. All I get is the browser window.

At this point I think I will give up trying to make HDMI working. I managed to get signal on the monitor, but then on the laptop I have missing bar menus. It seems they get pushed out of the screen. By setting resolution to 1280x1024 on the HDMI I can see them on the external monitor and drag them up the screen, but as soon as I change resolution they again disappear.
