Till some time ago, I didn't have any problems with VirtualBox (except blurry interface in KDE Plasma on Wayland and HiDPI screen).
I started to jump from kde to gnome and decided that I'll stay with plasma.
I use btrfs as a "backup" for unwanted system changes. After restoration of clean Arch install, I've installed fresh KDE Plasma.
I don't know what happened but I cant run VirtualBox machines.
I tested OVA image from kali homepage, and I tried to create new VM.
In both cases when I try to run a VM i have a popup windows with information "Starting virtual machine window". It takes forever and machine doesn't start.
I tried from GUI and with vboxmanage command.

I've got the same problem. It was working perfectly fine until the update to kernel 5.18.1.

Have you checked your VM logs for any leads to the problem?
And what did you mean by:I use btrfs as a "backup" for unwanted system changes.
Did you mean you tried to restore a snapshot?

As a fresh install is not a restoration I would think.
On my hard drive, I keep a snapshot of Arch just after base system install. I like to have a clean disk. For example, I don't like to clean .config directory. And if I'm correct, there is no fast way to switch from gnome to kde without a ton of config files from those environments.
So I prefer to restore my snapshot of root and home and copy documents or music from backup drive.

From the VM logs there's no VM being loaded. It should enumerate the Guest Machine type, and location of the virtual disk.
I don't have experience restoring a backup from a btrfs snapshot. It's possible this is the cause of the problem. Others in the forum who have done it might be able to help.

That's not the case for sure.
I use this method for a long time.
After restoring btrfs snapshot is like a system after installation with pacstrap.
I have pure terminal with software that I always use.
There is rsync, network manager, bash completion. That's all.
From this point I have clean plasma install with clean virtualbox install.
Virtualbox machines directory have nocow attribute.
Nothing new from my side.
Injust realised that I tried with gnome lately and I had similar problem with boxes.
Frozen virtual machine just after pressing launch button.
I'm a freak in this area.
In kde plasma I try to use only qt apps and in gnome only gtk applications. Sadly it's not possible so when I want to try something new I usually install another DE, play a little and use btrfs snapshot to start from the beginning

Hi, I tried this myself on my Framework laptop running 5.18.5-arch1-1. I tried adding this to the kernel parameters at boot time but it made no difference. The exact same issue is happening to me. I also tried downgrading to version 6.32 but the problem persisted. Any other ideas?

@w0nder if /proc/cmdline shows ibt=off has been added correctly and the issue is still present I would suggest starting a new thread as the cause can not be the same or the same fix would apply.
