[SOLVED] WIFI: Wifi not showing up

Looks like it is not working from the very low levels(hardware level).
Some of the outputs

iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

enp1s0 no wireless extensions.

enp0s20u3 no wireless extensions.

There is no wireless device. For some background i would like to tell you that I am using Arch from months and had a working wifi with all the required packages like `broadcom-wl`.

ip link
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: enp1s0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000

lspci -k

small cutout piece which I thought would be of your interest.

02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries BCM43142 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)
Subsystem: Dell Wireless 1704 802.11n + BT 4.0
Kernel modules: bcma

This is not the first time this happened, it had happened in past too. And the reason might sound funny to you but it happens everytime i try to connect to the hotspot of a Redmi device, I have. I have connected to Samsung device too and that never cause any problems but whenever i try with that redmi device it keeps saying some error occured or some normal looking problems popup. After that its(laptop) wifi stops working. I have booted many times it's been many days from that event it doesn't seems to recovering.

nmcli dev wifi list

doesn't shows any output which I used to use routinely for scanning and connecting (mostly it used to connect instantly after scanning automatically).

Re: [SOLVED] WIFI: Wifi not showing up

I don't have a lot of ideas but reading arch wiki pages I feel like my `lsmod` output should contain `bcma` too and since it's not having it that's why wifi isn't showing up. I would surely like to know if anyone has a clearer idea.

Re: [SOLVED] WIFI: Wifi not showing up

with all the required packages like `broadcom-wl`

Kernel modules: bcma

uname -a; pacman -Qs 'linux|broadcom'

You probably have braodcom-wl installed, blacklisting bcma, but it doesn't match the running kernel, either because of a botched or partial update or because you're booting the LTS kernel.

or because you're booting the LTS kernel

It's strange when I have installed `broadcom-wl` I was aware about the fact it works with latest kernel only and I have set it on default in grub settings. I am intrigued how it started using Lts kernel version (can be seen in the top).

Re: [SOLVED] WIFI: Wifi not showing up

How did you set it as default in GRUB? The default GRUB config will use whatever's first in it's logical list when you last regenerated the GRUB config which iirc defaults to the last changed date of the initramfs.

I have set
GRUB_DEFAULT="saved"
and
GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT="true"
which I think remembers your last selection and automatically boots into that.(and that was surely happening from months)

Doing it that way should generally stick yes.

To mark as [SOLVED] you can edit the thread title in the first post of the thread.

Re: [SOLVED] WIFI: Wifi not showing up

May you guess for any reason how arch (or maybe grub) silently changes the kernel? I always have both the latest and lts for safety purposes but I never saw any failure or recovery mode to opt for another kernel for booting.

Re: [SOLVED] WIFI: Wifi not showing up

If you operate with the SAVED option it shouldn't really happen automatically. How sure are you you haven't incidentally selected a different kernel? FWIW from what I'm seeing with an otherwise unchanged config, the "primary" option which is not hidden in the submenu is as I've stated, the newest kernel according to the adjustment timestamp of the initramfs which will generally be a "different" kernel than "standard". The SAVED option shouldn't care about that and even select an entry hidden in the submenu. But if you've ever moved the option up to pick the kernel that's not listed in the submenu that could refer to LTS.
