Why is linux-libre not in the official repositories?

I think it deserves to be on the list of officially supported kernels and distributed through official repositories.

May I recommend Parabola GNU/Linux? It it based on Arch, is completely free software and features linux-libre as its kernel?

+1

I think the libre-kernel does not fit for most users as you cannot use wifi or amd/nvidia graphics without the firmware (well, if you have an ThinkPad X60 or X200 from 2008 or so, it would work). Supporting it officially would make a lot of noise ending up in the default, hardened or lts kernel. For those with freedom in mind, there is Parabola like mentioned before. Parabola was my favorite system, but its restricted to virtual machines now as the modern hardware requires firmware to run properly. You can try running it without, but you won't have any bugfixes and most of the parts will lack a lot of functionality.

The question is about adding linux-libre to the official repositories, not about choosing a distribution.

It's not in the official repos because there isn't a developer that wants to maintain it.

Re: Why is linux-libre not in the official repositories?

You still haven't given a single reason, why you think it "deserves" to be officially maintained.
