Arch Linux kernel 5.18.9 restarts system instead of shutting down

This issue https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=244687 was solved since I last posted the solution, until today when I updated to 5.18.9.  However, even with the

xhcd_hcd.quirks=270336

kernel option, the problem has come back.

When shutting down the computer by any method, after about 30 seconds, or so, the system starts again.

I've got ahead and turned off WoL on my BIOS, just in case.  That did nothing.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?  Can anyone help diagnose what might be wrong here?

Thanks.

Re: Arch Linux kernel 5.18.9 restarts system instead of shutting down

I've tried turning off WoL and all xHCI functions in the BIOS.  I still get this problem.  I'd like to solve this, so if there's anybody out there who can take a stab, just let me know diasgnostics I need to post and I'll do it.  Having a computer not shut down is a problem, especially when dealing with it remotely.  Is this even the place to post this kind of problem?  Please, let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Arch Linux kernel 5.18.9 restarts system instead of shutting down

So it used to work with Linux 5.18.8 but now fails to work with 5.18.9?

If that's the case and you don't mind spending some time and effort, you can debug this regression. Feel free to ask for help.

Using the LTS kernel might be a way to temporarily work around the issue.

Re: Arch Linux kernel 5.18.9 restarts system instead of shutting down

https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel … Log-5.18.9 only contains 7 commits none of which are obviously related to your issue.  As JoeyCorleone already mentioned identifying the first bad and last good kernel will help identifying the cause.
Edit:
Does the kernel below have the issue?

Re: Arch Linux kernel 5.18.9 restarts system instead of shutting down

Thanks for getting back to me!

@JoeyCorleone yes, it worked with 5.18.8 and is now broken once again since 5.18.9 onwards (still persists on 5.18.14 as of this writing).

@loqs thanks for the link to the issue.  It does appear to be very much related.  I'm not however, able to switch kernels for testing on the fly because of the work that I'm doing, so I can't test other kernels that aren't mainline, at the moment.

I'm perfectly willing to give logs and such for the cause.  Do I do that here, or on bugzilla.kernel.org (following the thread that @dr.dynamics started)?
