No pulseaudio profiles (and of course no audio at all)

Good afternoon,

I'm having trouble with the audio system. I have Pipewire with Wireplumber and pipewire-pulse, but there are no sources or sinks at all with pactl list sources and pactl list sinks. My sound card is working fine in Windows (I'm dual booting) and there are apparently no pulseaudio profiles at all.

Here's some additional information:

pactl list cards

How could I fix the audio setup i my system? Would generating a default pulseaudio profile of sorts fix this?

Re: No pulseaudio profiles (and of course no audio at all)

What's the actual system (laptop vendor/model) here? Also the aplay command is a lowercase l and an uppercase L, not an i.

The codec seems to register only a headphone out not an speaker out. Try

sudo alsactl init

if you have a parallel Windows installation make sure fast boot is disabled.

Other than giving this output it doesn't seem to fix it. Fast boot is disabled.

Re: No pulseaudio profiles (and of course no audio at all)

speaker-test -D sysdefault # do you hear sth.
speaker-test -D front # dto
amixer -c2 # output

Fast boot is disabled.

Just to be sure, windows "fast start" isn't the (BIOS) fast-boot, in doubt see the 3rd link below.

Re: No pulseaudio profiles (and of course no audio at all)

Yes, I was referring to the BIOS fast boot. It is disabled.

speaker-test -D sysdefault doesn not play anything and gives me this error

speaker-test 1.2.7

Playback device is sysdefault
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:999:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -2,No such file or directory

speaker-test -D front gives a different error

speaker-test 1.2.7

Playback device is front
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib confmisc.c:1369:(snd_func_refer) Unable to find definition 'cards.1.pcm.front.2:CARD=1'

ALSA lib conf.c:5703:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such file or directory

amixer -c2 gives this output

The 'fast boot' in your BIOS and Windows 'fast start' are completely different things, you need to disable the latter...

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Re: No pulseaudio profiles (and of course no audio at all)

Apologies, I misunderstood. In any case, Windows "fast start" was already disabled before. I just tried turning it on and back off to see if anything changed, but no luck.

Do you have https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x8 … udio-alsa/ installed?

Re: No pulseaudio profiles (and of course no audio at all)

I didn't, but I did have pipewire-alsa. I tried installing pulseaudio-alsa as well just in case, also no change.
