I have an old Samsung RF511 laptop. The WiFi has deteriorated to 1.5 - 2.5Mbs, but ethernet gives over 600Mb so I bought an 802.11ac dongle - RTL8811.
I saw that I cannot use the RTL8811 module which is for PCI so I used rtl8812au-20210629-dkms-git
- and when that didn't help I used rtl88xxau-aircrack-dkms-git r1200.cab4e4e-1
In each case the modules installed but I can't but enable the interface

Modules linked in: 88XXau(OE) 8812au(OE)
Both modules from the AUR are loaded and the snippet leaves open which is currently controlling the HW.
When trying rtl88xxau make sure that rtl8812au isn't in the way (remove the module)
There's also https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtl8821au-dkms-git

Ouch!
What an idiot! I removed the rtl8812au package before I installed rtl88xxau, but I missed that it was still loaded.
Thankyou, I am now up and running.
