Hello, since 2-3 weeks I have a problem that happens each time I open an image/video/website (across different software, brave, firefox, mpv etc). So when I see a part of video that is maybe dark or shady (idk how to reproduce) the corners of the screen start flashing (it keep increasing frequency and intensity of flashes until I pause the video or change website/tab).
The problem happens each day and more often with specific graphical interfaces, it seems to happen every time I open the facebook website for example (but only in the homepage) and so on a lot of cases.
I use xfce, xorg, picom, nvidia dkms, and the standard kernel.

It happens also without picom: I tried to open the facebook homepage, the screen started flashing, so I killed the picom process and it keeps flashing, so I killed browser, it stopped flashing, then I reopened browser in facebook homepage and it stared flashing again. The same problem in some specific dark scenes of movies using mpv and vlc (but using vlc it seems flashing differently)

What happens if you turn the monitor off and back on?
What if you drive it at a lower resolution (xrandr --output DP-2 --mode 1920x1200)?
What if you move the GPU to maximum performance in nvidia-settings?
I suspect either the backlight or the signal.

it apparently stops flashing but I should use it in a lower resolution (losing icons positions etc) for at least a day to be sure that it will not flash anymore

I have 3 PowerMizer settings: Auto, Adaptive, Prefer Maximum Performance. It was in auto, I set in maximum performance and nothing changed, it keeps flashing
I recorder a 25sec video using my smartphone (because the flashing can't be recorded via software, using OBS or SimpleScreenRecorder), the flashing start only with the facebook GUI (or in specific scenes of videos, maybe in dark scenes when the contrast is high).
The problem happens only in this arch linux install, I tested debian and windows without problems

This is not how this works, the kernel parameter activates a module parameter.
Please revisit https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel_parameters and add it for your bootloader.
Edit, @d.Alt : that's not gonna work, you'd have to re-load the module.

It seems not, but I can't test a 1200p resolution for a long time because I can't use other software I usually use etc. I tested this resolution for around 10min and it seems the problem doesn't show up
Do you know if it's a problem that will be fixed? It's a kernel related problem? I'm not sure what is not working

You're saying you're using "nvidia dkms" but you're using the regular kernel (and later on apparently the LTS kernel) which have pre-built modules.

I'm using nvidia-dkms https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x8 … idia-dkms/ and the flashing problems show up in both kernels (normal and LTS)
Just a curious fact: if I open facebook in dark mode, the screen flashes, everytime, but if I open facebook using the darkmode of Dark Reader (popular browser addon), it never flashes, I don't know what is the logic

Feared so - the difference between CVT1 and CVT12 RB isn't much ![]()
Try to blacklist "snd_hda_codec_hdmi", https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … acklisting - use the /bin/true method and make sure it's not loaded - obviously we're grasping straws now…
