SOLVED
I am trying to install the package jitsi-meet from the AUR, and a dependency listed is Python2. I have successfully installed all other dependencies for both Jitsi-Meet and Python2 itself. If it helps, I'm using i3-wm on a Lenovo T590 ThinkPad; no serious software issues have come up since my reinstallation of Arch Linux a couple months ago.
Using
sudo pacman -U python2
produces the following error:
[austin@archlinux python2]$ sudo pacman -U python2
loading packages...
error: 'python2': could not find or read package
Here is the full context (as far back as my terminal session goes):
[austin@archlinux ~]$ sudo pacman -Q git nodejs npm python python2 nginx
[sudo] password for austin:
git 2.38.0-1
error: package 'nodejs' was not found
error: package 'npm' was not found
python 3.10.7-1

warning: 'python2' is a file, you might want to use -p/--file.
error: package 'nginx' was not found

For the record, I previous tried to install Python2 (so I could install another, unrelated AUR package) and got about this far, but eventually gave up.
Other potentially helpful information: I ran
sudo pacman -Syu
; this got all of the dependencies in
sudo pacman -S nodejs npm nginx
to successfully install.
Existing resources I've referenced so far:

First, edit your post to properly use bbcode tags otherwise this is completely unreadable.
But at least one obvious error is your command to install python2 is complete jibberish. Where did you get the idea to try to run that? You can install an aur package by passing the -i flag to makepkg, or if you use `pacman -U` you need to give the .pkg.tar.xz package file, not just a name.

I put in bbcode.
I navigated to python2 in the terminal then ran
makepkg -i
; I got the error message :
==> ERROR: A failure occurred in prepare().
Aborting...
I tried running
sudo pacman -U /home/austin/python2/src/Python-2.7.18.tar.xz
; it doesn't work either, saying
error: missing package metadata in /home/austin/python2/src/Python-2.7.18.tar.xz
error: '/home/austin/python2/src/Python-2.7.18.tar.xz': invalid or corrupted package
. The same happens with the other pkg.tar.xz package I tried.
Here is the full terminal exchange:
[austin@archlinux ~]$ cd /python2
bash: cd: /python2: No such file or directory
[austin@archlinux ~]$ cd python2
[austin@archlinux python2]$ makepkg -i

Since it appears the issue is the some sort of flaw(s) in both packages, would re-doing the git clone of the Python2 package from the AUR possibly solve the issue? I tried that before, but then I got the
A failure occurred in prepare()
issue; is there another way to go about doing this?

I said the .pkg.tar.xz file ... the built package file, not the source archives.
As for the patch error it is due to running makepkg again in the same directory. You should be able to use `makepkg -ei`. But in anycase, like in your previous thread, you should not be using arch linux. You have no idea what you are doing on a command line and your random flailing is going to do damage.

I had the same"next patch would create the file...which already exists" issue. For me, I just switched to the binary package:
pacaur -S python2-bin

python2 is an AUR package, but what you've shown is missing some steps. Try following https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Arch_U … g_packages
What jm_123 posted is an AUR helper that automates it for you, but note that these are officially unsupported: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AUR_helpers
For people who find this later: You can also install python2 with pyenv, which might be easier. I dunno if it would satisfy dependencies of jitsi, but it will provide a working python2 command (after you set global python version as in "pyenv help global").
