You're mounting the esp into /boot/EFI, but the initramfs goes into /boot
ls -lhR /boot
cat /proc/cmdline # from the 6.0.12 kernel - DO NOT UPDATE THAT KERNEL, you'd likely break it as well@schard
I'm sorry, what exactly do you mean by
There's a fat warning in the screenshot you posted and the ro statement in your "config" is the cause. Probably.
Off topic:
I'm on many FB Linux groups, as well as other Distro forums. And one of the topics that come on often is just this, the Arch forum, and how they always send you to the wiki.
And you, me or nobody else for that matter wants to hear what some people have to say about that, and in what terms.
It's more that nobody here cares to concern themselves with the opinion of facebook users.
One reason of that might be that the projected perception is wrong:
Nobody's always sent to the wiki but everybody is errr… "encouraged" to use their brain first. In a more or less polite fashion.
You're expected to have a basic understanding of what you're doing and reading the relevant wiki is just a good start to get there.
And it's "E PLURIBUS UNUM"

Maybe you can at least point me in the right direction, if it's not too much to ask...
You can't be serious. You've been pointed in the right direction multiple times.

So does the kernel and refind can boot from other partitions. This isn't the issue, it's simply that refind is guessing at which initramfs to load and guessing wrong.

Also off topic.
I agree in part with what you said.
But as an example, knowing how a combustion engine works (the Carnot Cycle), does not automatically imply that you're gonna be able to find the little "Do-Hickey" sensor hidden behind the engine block of your Toyota that's preventing your engine from starting.
At the same time, someone who has already changed 10 or 100 such "Do-Hickeys", will be able to tell off the bat that it's what's causing the problem, as well as find it blindfolded.
Back to topic...

So what you are saying is that I should mount my EFI partition in /boot instead of /boot/EFI ???
Why is it that everyone here speaks in riddles?
How hard is it to say something in plain terms, that even a "layman" such as myself can understand???

UPDATE
OK, since Y'all mentioned the "ro" a few times, I went ahead and edited the /boot/refind_linux.conf from...
"Boot with minimal options" "ro root=UUID=ae544fdc-edcd-4040-b8e2-feef77c713d1 video1920x1080"To...
"Boot with minimal options" "root=UUID=ae544fdc-edcd-4040-b8e2-feef77c713d1 video1920x1080 rw"Took that from an Erik DuBois Arcolinux tutorial...
https://www.arcolinuxd.com/refind/
I did not include the "quiet splash" argument, since I wanna see what my system is doing...
Also, I re-installed rEFInd
pacman -S refind
refind-installAnd run mkinitcpio again, for both kernels...
mkinitcpio -p linux-lts
mkinitcpio -p linuxI still cannot boot the LTS kernel.
Anyone?
Anything?
What am I missing? What am I doing wrong, or rather not doing here???

All of your problems can be solved here: https://ubuntu.com/#download
In case you think I'm just being flip, I'm really not. You don't want to read the documentation and don't want to be bothered to understand anything. You want things done for you. You need a distro that does that, Arch is not that distro.

That was rude and uncalled for...
If you resort to insults rather than answering a direct question, please don't help.
I did nothing to warrant your insults, and I will not stand for such behavior.
Also, I will not answer in kind, it's not who I am.
A person can read descriptions such as the wiki and still not be able to determine what the problem is.
I have tried, and I posted what I did, and repeatedly asked if what I did is right or wrong.
You choose to mock me, and now you took it one step further by insulting me.
Shame on you.

ArchDoru, I did see your report and I have been watching this thread most of my afternoon. I stepped away for a few hours and I see things did go pear shaped rather thoroughly.
I will say you kind of stepped in it and pushed some of the magic buttons that can spin things up around here. I apologize as I saw the train wreck coming and did nothing to stop it.
You seem not to be studying the links you are being provided. You may be reading them, but I agree with the consensus that you are not applying the information the links convey, Unfortunately suggesting that step-by-step instructions be provided is a bit like striking the proverbial hornets nest with a stick.
I am going to suggest that everyone here take it back a notch and let us regroup. No, we are not going to provide step by step instructions. I ask that we all stop pounding that point. We are also happy to help you -- we really are -- and it is why most of us are here. What we ask is that you read the documentation, We know what is in there. If there is some thing specific in there that is causing issues, we will address the specifics. Also, suggesting a different distribution that might be more in line with ones capabilities is really not rude; A thrown gauntlet, perhaps, but I don't see how it was rude.
Finally, I suggest you look through the classic essay by Eric Raymond linked in my signature -- This thread is a page right out of that essay.
Edit: Case in point: Where in what you have shared with us do you define your kernel? Or the initrd? Or processor uCode?

I really appreciate your response.
As far as that remark being rude or not...
Did you ever see a Ford dealer recommending that you go buy a Toyota, despite the fact that you keep looking at that nice and shinny F-150?
That is kinda how that felt to me, at least.
I got the remark that no step by step is customary here.
I was hoping at least for a bit more detailed kind of help, such as look here, or you problem is with...
I did study, and I also did asked some very direct questions, which a simple yes or no would've made a great answer to.
Such as should I have the ESP partition mounted on /boot instead of /boot/EFI?
Nobody answered that...
I have installed and re-installed the intel-ucode
As far as kernel and initrd, shouldn't makeinitcpio take care of that?
The system did boot with no problems after OS install. The LTS kernel update started all of this.

My vision was kinda that he's got kernels and initramfs' flying around in /boot AND /boot/EFI
By his account the LTS kernel has worked before, so whatever installed archlinux for him probably added the pattern and I don't see why else these symptoms would emerge in this context and in that case we're probably not only facing multiple kernels and initramfs, but also multiple instances of refind - which could result in him editing the wrong refind.conf.
That's of course just guesswork until we can see
ls -lhR /bootideally maybe followed by
sudo umount /boot/EFI; ls -lhR /bootDid you ever see a Ford dealer recommending that you go buy a Toyota, despite the fact that you keep looking at that nice and shinny F-150?
No, but I've seen people being to to take the bus until they have a drivers license.

@ArchDoru As an ordinary user it is not my place to disagree with an admin, so I'll just say this:
You have been repeatedly asked for information and been given explicit commands to help us help you to debug your problem.
Instead of providing this info, you derailed this thread to a meta-level.
Please provide the output @seth asked you for in addition to:
$ cat /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
$ cat /etc/vconsole.confSince you obviously have garbage in the former file:
[root@Asus-ROG-G75JX archdoru]# mkinitcpio -p linux-lts [...] /etc/vconsole.conf: line 1: ...: command not found -> Running build hook: [consolefont] /etc/vconsole.conf: line 1: ...: command not found [...]

@seth
As always, thank you for your input.
First of all, let's clarify something...
Nothing and nobody installed Arch for me, I did that myself, just as I stated from the very beginning in my OP post. And I did not use any script, no ARCHFI, ARCHDI, CalamArch, or any other such stuff.
I booted from the archinstaller ISO and corrected the ESP partition mount point, it is now mounted in /boot, as previosly sugested here.
I also re-installed both kernels, LTS and "fresh", ran mkinitkpio -p for both kernels, re-installed rEFInd and so on
As requested, here is the output for "ls -lhR":

@ArchDoru As an ordinary user it is not my place to disagree with an admin, so I'll just say this:
You have been repeatedly asked for information and been given explicit commands to help us help you to debug your problem.
Instead of providing this info, you derailed this thread to a meta-level.Please provide the output @seth asked you for in addition to:
$ cat /etc/mkinitcpio.conf $ cat /etc/vconsole.confSince you obviously have garbage in the former file:

@schard
As always, thank you for your reply.
I already replied to seth, with the output he requested.
Here is the ouput for the stuff you asked for:

# MODULES
# The following modules are loaded before any boot hooks are
# run. Advanced users may wish to specify all system modules
# in this array. For instance:
# MODULES=(usbhid xhci_hcd)
MODULES=(vfat)
# BINARIES
# This setting includes any additional binaries a given user may

# override the actual binaries included by a given hook
# BINARIES are dependency parsed, so you may safely ignore libraries

# This is the most important setting in this file. The HOOKS control the
# modules and scripts added to the image, and what happens at boot time.
# Order is important, and it is recommended that you do not change the

# help on a given hook.
# 'base' is _required_ unless you know precisely what you are doing.
# 'udev' is _required_ in order to automatically load modules

## This setup will autodetect all modules for your system and should

FONT_MAP=8859-2Just out of pure curiosity, what does the font in my Console have to do with my problem?
Since I'm 55, and my eyesight is not what it used to be 20 years ago, I first increased the console font when I started the installer to:
setfont ter-132pAfter which I setup the installer to allow SSH connection from another PC in my home, where I had the benefit of even bigger fonts, plus the added comfort of a 42 inch screen, and for the lazy men that I tend to be, also being able to copy/paste from a HOW-TO tutorial text file I compiled from various sources, instead of having to type the whole installer... ![]()
This is just an old laptop I had laying in a closet and unused for over 3 years.
And I decided to do a test run of Arch before installing it on my new PC build that will hopefully be finished sometime after the New Year's...
Building computers is both my hobby, as well as where most of my money goes.

In order to prevent further confusion, please remove the first line containing the ellipsis ("...") from your /etc/vconsole.conf.
It is unlikely causing any harm, but might lead people, in particular me, on the wrong track.
That being said, your console fonts obviously have nothing to do with your issue at hand.
Please show us
# mount

# cat /etc/fstabfor further investigation.

Don't know if you already saw that in my previous posts, but this laptop has discrete graphics, namely nVidia GeForce GTX 770M, and older model. thus the AUR nVidia dkms driver package was installed with
yay -S nvidia-470xx-dkms
yay -S nvidia-470xx-utilsOnce I get this problem solved and also finish my customization, I also plan to install the rest of the packages, such as:
nvidia-470xx-settings
opencl-nvidia-470xx
lib32-nvidia-470xx-utils
lib32-opencl-nvidia-470xxMost likely I will not need Vulkan on this old laptop, so I won't even bother with it.
Also I never did Bumblebee, Optimus, Prime and all that other dual GPU-IGP mix crap...
Almost always my laptops are plugged in, so I care much more for performance than I do for power saving and battery life.

UPDATE
Temporary and 100% involuntary fix...
As mentioned before, I pre-partitioned the two SSD drives on this laptop for a dual boot with another Linux Distro.
Linux Mint 21.1 just got released, and I installed it in its designated partitions. Or so I thought...
Somehow the Linux Mint bootloader got installed on the sda1 partition instead of sda2.
Thus the Arch rEFInd bootloader got wiped out and replaced by GRUB from Linux Mint.
I am not entirely sure how that happened. It can be either due to an oversight on my part, as I was tired, since I've been up for over 24 hours already. Or it can be that the Linux Mint Ubiquity Installer just decided to default-install GRUB in the very first ESP/EFI type partition available, overwriting my choices.
After reboot, my rEFInd is gone, and I'm looking at a Linux Mint GRUB post, with Arch listed due to Mint's os-prober.
Just for the fun of it, I choose to boot into Arch, and surprise, surprise, I can now boot the Arch LTS kernel again.
uname -r
5.15.84-1-lts So I guess whatever the problem was, it has to do with rEFInd, or the way I set it up during the install, or messed it up afterwards. ![]()
I am still very curios to find out which...
Anyway, I will be out of town for the holidays, but I will re-install everything after New Year's, preferably having the Arch bootloader control things in the boot process, not the Mint one.
My thinking now is that maybe I should just stick with the "devil I know", namely go back to using GRUB, and forget all about rEFInd. It gave me and everybody else here enough headaches already.
Last, but not least, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your input, as well as for your time, patience and efforts.
Also, I apologize again if I offended or aggravated anybody in any way. It was never my intention.
See Y'all after New Year's.
H A P P Y H O L I D A Y S !
Sincerely, Doru

Let me really through a wrench into the gears. Do you need a boot loader in the the first place? Many uEFI machines are now stable enough their firmware to handle selection of an OS without a boot loader. Linux boots really well as an EFI stub.
This Asus Vivobook has options for the main line kernel, the LTS kernel, a uEFI shell, or chain loading of the MS Windows boot loader

Let me really THROW...
It's very true. We did reach the point where Boot-loaders aren't all that necessary anymore.
We already carry a computer in our back pocket that is thousands of times better and faster than the one that put the first man on the moon back in 1969. We call this supercomputer a Smart Phone. So in this regard, we are heading in the right direction.
My very first contact with a computer was back in 1992, when I was a sophomore college student and also a part time Physics and Chemistry Substitute Teacher at a High School in my native country, Romania. After weeks of debates and negotiations, I convinced the Principal to buy a Felix HC-90 computer, Made in Romania.
The operating system was Basic, and the whole damn thing was basically a fat and heavy keyboard that could be attached to either a monochrome black&green CRT monitor, or to a TV set, via a VHF coax cable adapter.
I remember spending the better part of a week writing a program that will display and throw a pair of dice every time the F2 key was hit. I called this program Digital Craps Table...
