[SOLVED] audio device muted by accident?

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=281743

I was using zen. After an update, no sound coming out of computer.

In thread above, some older kernels were shared in a google drive. None of those worked for me.

A fix was announced for LTS 5.15.87

LTS 5.15.87 was released today and doesn't work either.

I've tried switching from Pipewire to Pulse and back to Pipewire again.

No luck

Re: [SOLVED] audio device muted by accident?

The issue you linked would have been fixed in 6.0.12+ for the stable kernel and in that LTS kernel with the 5.15.87 version. Why do you think you have the same issue? Which audio HW do you have? From a normal updated kernel what's your output for

aplay -lL
sudo dmesg | grep -iE 'snd|sof'
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
pactl list cards
pactl list sinks

Re: [SOLVED] audio device muted by accident?

Please wrap outputs in code tags

You do not have the same hardware at all and your main problem is simply

    Name: alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo
...
    Mute: yes

Unmute your audio card

pactl set-sink-mute alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo off

and check pavucontrol and similar for your device mute state in the future.

Re: [SOLVED] audio device muted by accident?

Thanks a lot! How could I have muted the device?

Re: [SOLVED] audio device muted by accident?

Only you know what you did but this kind of mute state normally only happens with some active interaction on your part in a relevant volume mixer. The only remote relation to anything kernel that might be there is if some mixer control was named differently or so but that's a huge stretch. Which tool do you normally use to check/look at your card volumes?

alsamixer, but I checked the volumes and they were all up.

I don't even see an option to mute the device there, just mute the sound

Re: [SOLVED] audio device muted by accident?

i remember going into pavucontrol, but that was surely after the problem arose.

Re: [SOLVED] audio device muted by accident?

The mute state in alsamixer is the MM (muted) or OO (not muted) at the bottom of the bar and can be toggled with the "m" key, but in general don't check/rely/use alsamixer while you are using pulseaudio/pipewire it lacks surrounding context that the others have, pavucontrol will have shown you that the sink was muted by having a "pressed" muted speaker icon on the correct card.

If this is [SOLVED] please mark it as such by editing the title in your first post and potentially choosing a more telling subject line.
