Predictable Network Names Memory

I've just replaced the mobo for my system and the ethernet lan has changed from enp2s0 to enp3s0.  Obviously there's a new MAC address involved but what I don't understand is how it remembers the old MAC addresses and decides to allocate a new name.  Where does udev, or is it systemd, save the information from the previous allocation?  How can I revise that memory?

Re: Predictable Network Names Memory

It doesn't have memory here, that's the point of the predictable names that they do not rely on arbitrary local system specifics (in theory, practice of the matter is that this can also change with e.g. BIOS updates), the p3 here is associated with the PCI lane the adapter is on. https://www.freedesktop.org/software/sy … cheme.html if you wanted to change this "back" you'd forgo the predictable names and instead rename it to enp2s0 again: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … rface_name
