Elgato Wave:3 mic detected, but no input if headphones plugged in

Hello, I recently got an elgato Wave:3.

The mic has a headphone jack on it. I noticed if I connect my headphones to the microphone, then the OS doesn't pick up any input.

If instead I plug the headphones to my Dell XPS's headphone jack, then the OS does pick up input from the mic.

Sounds similar to this post.
