[SOLVED]Firefox (maybe all gtk apps) does not respect font style - KDE

I do not have any other gtk app on my system, so Firefox is my problem. I am using "ttf-ubuntu-font-family", style Medium 11. Because you can not see diference (maybe you can) with regular and medium on screenshots, I changed default font to be Ubuntu Italic 11.

Firefox is installed from repos, no flatpak, snap....

KDE Plasma is latest, 5.27.3, wayland. Firefox is using wayland also.

KDE apps are using Ubuntu Italic style:

But Firefox does not use same style for GUI. Firefox uses Ubuntu font, but regular one, no medium or italic etc... This is Firefox gui menu:

Whichever font I choose from KDE settings, Firefox will use that font for gui, but always regular one. When I change font style, Firefox will not respect that.

Any help?

Try "font-weight" or "font-style".
If FF ignores that, that's probably deliberat or overzealous and you'll have to file a bug against FF (unless one already exists)

I tried a lot of fonts, and for some reason "inter-font" works as should, but Ubuntu not...

I do not speak English, but I understand...

That's alotta fonts…
But Inter comes as "Inter" and "Inter Medium" and Ubuntu "only" has Medium as the style.

What did you actually (successfully) try?

* {
    font-family: "Inter Medium";
}

or

* {
    font-family: "Inter";
    font-style: "Medium";
}

I tried with FF settings, with Ubuntu font... Than I just installed inter font and setup from KDE settings menu...

Also, I found that font which have only style, like Ubuntu, FF does not except that style. Every font which have "Medium/Bold/etc..." separately, does work on FF.

I read and tried it, it seems I was not clear about it? Setting FF in userCrome.css does not work with Ubuntu font not in any of the suggested ways...

I missed your edit

Every font which have "Medium/Bold/etc..." separately, does work on FF.

What did you actually (successfully) try?

Try "font-weight" and in doubt (I don't think "medium" will be accepted as symbol) a number (500)

Should I draw or write that none of the previously offered solutions does not work?

1. I tried to setup user style with userChrome.css in 

.mozilla/firefox/profile/chrome

for "inter font', setup works, for "ubuntu" font works only with regular font, not with "medium" style. or with "weight" option.

So, this way works only with font which have separated ttf file for style (Bold, Black, Medium, Light...). That way works even if I choose from KDE settings that font with some style....

2. I tried to 

synthesize a "Ubuntu Medium"

in the way that is written on the following link:

I had no luck with that either, Firefox just doesn't accept the Ubuntu Medium font, I don't know how else to explain it.

3. 

Nothing works

is the equivalent of me giving up and just choosing another font.

So, the problem is not solved, it is just bypassed. Should i change the topic title to "bypassed"? big_smile (Just a joke wink )


EDIT:

I just downloaded Ubuntu font from:

https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Ubuntu

In that pack there is separately "Ubuntu Medium" file.... Now everything works big_smile

the question would have been whether you had succeeded in that, ie. whether the synthetic font showed up in fc-list/fc-match, whether you could use it in other clients and how you tried to configure/address it in firefox to illustrate *how* it doesn't work.
