Hi,
I tried to install Mariadb on a new Arch installation and am getting the following error when I try to initialize :
chown: changing ownership of '/var/lib/mysql': Operation not permitted
Cannot change ownership of the database directories to the 'mysql'
user. Check that you have the necessary permissions and try again.
Tried doing chown for mysql on the /var/lib/mysql folder but it did not help.
If I run the above command as sudo, it goes through but I get stuck when I try to do mariadb_sercure_installation. The system does not accept an empty root password (which should be the case for a fresh install).
Any help will be much appreciated !!!
Thanks
Sachin

If I run the above command as sudo...
There is no "above command". Please post actual commands and output as it is not at all clear what commands you are running. It does sound like you also have not yet followed the wiki.
