There use to be an .Xauthority and we decided to delete it so i3 would re-create it in the next login. Remember?
At the time it did create one but it's gone ???

I've re-created it.

So now

Edit: yeah because the file is likely bogus.
Let SDDM create it.

Try removing ~/.Xauthority and logging in again without rebooting. Rebooting without logging in creates the file again and the problem will persist

Log out, move to a different VT, log into the console, remove the ~/.Xauthority file. Log out, head back to SDDM, log in there.

OK. I did the "whole dance".

Log out, move to a different VT, log into the console, remove the ~/.Xauthority file. Log out, head back to SDDM, log in there.

After the first log out and log in there was no .Xautority to be deleted. (file not found).
Nevertheless, I continued to do the next steps. I just logged back in.

 xauth -v list
xauth:  file /home/ralvez/.Xauthority does not exist
Using authority file /home/ralvez/.Xauthority

It's almost as if I have missing config files... but I have not deleted anything.

It would seem like the system is "confused" as to what files it has but if asked for them specifically it says that the file is not there. ??!

I combed through all the references to xauthority but could not find any indicators.
I cannot put the contents of the file here because it is larger that we are allowed to post.

NOTE: Let me correct my statement.
I did find a buch of references but some were due to the fact that I use python and some programs make a reference to it.

There is one that is in my .bashrc exports that explains why the system thinks it is in /ralvez/.Xauthority

export XAUTHORITY=$HOME/.Xauthority

NOTE: I tried pastebin but same problem as arch, the file is too big.

Well ... after much poking around and checking google and archlinux forums I decided to remove the

export XAUTHORITY=$HOME/.Xauthority

from my .bashrc exports.

No more authority errors. Yay!!!

Only one problem remains...
Often, after a reboot it boots to TTY1 but SDDM seems to like TTY2 so I get a blank screen. Oddly enough I do not get a TTY where I can login, is just a blank screen.
I then press Ctrl + Alt + F2 and everything is good.

The other thing that is odd is that I added the early loading of the nvidia modules as per SDDM page.

This pretty much explains your previous "login" issues. And the variable had absolutely no business being there - even iffff it was (ie. very hypothetical fantasy thesis) necessary and correct, bashrc would be the wrong location.

SDDM is supposed to start on TTY1, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/SDDM#S … ad_of_tty7
Check your SDDM config file(s) and the outputs of

systemctl status getty@tty1.service
systemctl status getty@tty2.service

Fixed using /usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsetup.
