this affected me today, too, whilst using Brave.

fixed by running `brave-browser --disable-gpu`. then i disabled GPU acceleration in the browser settings.

Deleting the folder "GPUCache" in my ~/.config/chromium/Default has resolved my problem without the need of deleting the whole profile,

This exact issue appeared for me but for Slack and Element (both Electron apps I presume) rather than Chromium. This fix worked to resolve it on both apps!
