What improvements does the "libified" version of pacman give? dont really understand the difference between not libified and libified.
Writing (GUI) frontends (and database backends) is much easier now. And there are bindings for some languages other that C/C++. New pacman is essentially the console frontend to libalpm.
Besides, there are many new features, improvement and bugfixes. Pacman3 is not just libificated (or what the correct word is?) pacman2.

I've never really understood the ArchLinux developer's definition of "real soon"... could you elaborate...

That shoud be Duke Nukem Waits Forever.........
Anyway, for those of you that have a problem wiht the current install media, go grab tpowa's "new and improved" iso's.
@delphinen
Realeses dosn't realy matter in arch in the same way as they do with [insertotherdistrohere]. They are basicly just a snapshot of the current pkg releases with an installer trown on top for good mesure.
If you run arch atm, and have it up to date with -Syu, you aer in reality running arch 0.7.9923 now.

I thoroughly agree with the last statement as a relatively new user. With Arch being my first linux install and most of my help coming over a phone from a friend at a different college, I managed to break my install beyond my capability to repair without a reformat at least 3 times the first weekend.
I also didn't know about the twopa (sp?) isos so that didn't really help. I also have a very slow connection here on campus so I had to update at 20kbs. All in all I love arch and the challenges it offers to new users but up to date isos would be a great boon to new users as it fixes some bugs of the older isos. Unfortunately the rolling release system doesn't always cater to new users and it would be good for them to have a stable and up to date environment that they can freeze and learn how to use Arch before they update.
Hope thats not too much of a ramble.

Just noticed today after doing an FTP install to a previously Windows-only box, it now says Arch Linux 0.8 (Voodoo) at bootup. Nice! ![]()

Yep, Voodoo too.

i just noticed that myself!, sweetness, voodoo is such a menacingly cool name, hehe. must have been a recent kernel update or something when the 'name change' change took affect?. anyways, i guess the OP has his answer.

Looks like I got version 8 too now. Last time I pacman -Syu'd I was like 'oh shit, initscripts, kernel headers and gcc are updating. I won't be able to boot up after this.'
I was extreemly surprised that I was able to boot up sucessfully after the upgrade went smoothly. Coming from ubuntu I am used to bad upgrades. I guess it is the rolling release style. (I even run testing so more surprise for me.)
