After installing Arch Linux, I feel like I only have one core running, it's the only one under load.
The overall operation feels jerky and slow
What can this be related to?

Include explanations of log messages from the message catalog where available:
# journalctl -x

Please post full lspci -k output and (as root) journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st .
The 2nd command will show an url once it has finished, post that url .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky
