[Unsolvable] Can't find My wifi ssid on laptop

Important thing to note is that I was able to see it on my laptop once. The only difference I find is that at that time it was on channel '8'. Now it's on channel '13'. My mobile and all other devices are capable of connecting to wifi. I can see channel information through an app on android.
On laptop since I use a window manager, so I connect to wifi using `nmcli` since using

$ nmcli dev wifi list --rescan yes

shows channel too. I was able to see the channel. I wasn't aware of importance of channel but highest I was seeing in the list of all wifi networks available through my laptop was 11. I just randomly did a search related to that and found there are lot of regulatory directions on channels.
Few info about my laptop(I tried to learn more about it now don't know what is not right for me to go beyond 11):

$ iwlist wlp2s0 channel
wlp2s0 32 channels in total; available frequencies :
Channel 01 : 2.412 GHz
Channel 02 : 2.417 GHz
Channel 03 : 2.422 GHz
Channel 04 : 2.427 GHz
Channel 05 : 2.432 GHz
Channel 06 : 2.437 GHz
Channel 07 : 2.442 GHz
Channel 08 : 2.447 GHz
Channel 09 : 2.452 GHz
Channel 10 : 2.457 GHz
Channel 11 : 2.462 GHz
Channel 12 : 2.467 GHz
Channel 13 : 2.472 GHz
Channel 14 : 2.484 GHz
Channel 36 : 5.18 GHz
Channel 38 : 5.19 GHz
Channel 40 : 5.2 GHz
Channel 42 : 5.21 GHz
Channel 44 : 5.22 GHz
Channel 46 : 5.23 GHz
Channel 48 : 5.24 GHz
Channel 52 : 5.26 GHz
Channel 56 : 5.28 GHz
Channel 60 : 5.3 GHz
Channel 64 : 5.32 GHz
Channel 100 : 5.5 GHz
Channel 104 : 5.52 GHz
Channel 108 : 5.54 GHz
Channel 112 : 5.56 GHz
Channel 116 : 5.58 GHz
Channel 120 : 5.6 GHz
Channel 124 : 5.62 GHz

I have tried setting region
through `# iw reg set IN` and also through modprobe options as mentioned here and also tried setting REGDOMAIN in crda

$ iw reg get
global
country 00: DFS-UNSET
(2402 - 2472 @ 40), (6, 20), (N/A)

However I doubt if my laptop supports 5GHz but it would be nice if that too can be figured out and be fully sure.

Few info about my laptop(I tried to learn more about it now don't know what is not right for me to go beyond 11):

Depends on your location
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_W … 1b/g/n/ax)

tl;dr - channel 13 is ok everywhere but North America, you might set the proper reg domain: have to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … ory_domain

Edit: "iwlist wlp2s0 channel" certainly suggests 5GHz capacity.

Re: [Unsolvable] Can't find My wifi ssid on laptop

I tried

$ iw list | grep -A 15 Frequencies:
Frequencies:
* 2412 MHz [1] (20.0 dBm)
* 2417 MHz [2] (20.0 dBm)
* 2422 MHz [3] (20.0 dBm)
* 2427 MHz [4] (20.0 dBm)
* 2432 MHz [5] (20.0 dBm)
* 2437 MHz [6] (20.0 dBm)
* 2442 MHz [7] (20.0 dBm)
* 2447 MHz [8] (20.0 dBm)
* 2452 MHz [9] (20.0 dBm)
* 2457 MHz [10] (20.0 dBm)
* 2462 MHz [11] (20.0 dBm)
* 2467 MHz [12] (20.0 dBm) (no IR)
* 2472 MHz [13] (20.0 dBm) (no IR)
* 2484 MHz [14] (20.0 dBm) (no IR)
Band 2:

Frequencies:

* 5180 MHz [36] (20.0 dBm) (no IR)
* 5190 MHz [38] (20.0 dBm) (no IR)
* 5200 MHz [40] (20.0 dBm) (no IR)

* 5520 MHz [104] (20.0 dBm) (no IR, radar detection)
* 5540 MHz [108] (20.0 dBm) (no IR, radar detection)

An important thing is all of them say "no IR", that are not available to use.

Edit: Ok I found https://superuser.com/questions/809282/ … -bypass-it. The thing is I am not able to set regdomain and have mentioned what I have tried already.

Re: [Unsolvable] Can't find My wifi ssid on laptop

I also tried installing wireless-regdb and booted. Any of the thing worked now I can see the right country through `iw reg get`. And "no IR" is gone as appropriate to ours country.

iw list | grep -A 15 Frequencies:
Frequencies:
* 2412 MHz [1] (30.0 dBm)
* 2417 MHz [2] (30.0 dBm)

* 5520 MHz [104] (24.0 dBm) (radar detection)
* 5540 MHz [108] (24.0 dBm) (radar detection)

but the main problem is still there. Can't scan beyond channel 11 and 5GHz too.

Re: [Unsolvable] Can't find My wifi ssid on laptop

Please post the output of "systool -vm cfg80211" and your complete system journal after trying to set the reg domain:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

Did you try to scan configure the reg domain w/ wpa_supplicant?

Re: [Unsolvable] Can't find My wifi ssid on laptop

reg domain is already set successfully as desired. Do you still need to see system journal? I am not able to scan beyond channel 11 and 5Ghz signal that's the current issue. Today my router is on 11th channel. So, I can see it and connect it today. But as channel 12 and 13 are also allowed in our country it will be using those too whenever appropriate then I wouldn't be able to connect to it.

The output in the OP says you're in the global domain, so yes: please post the journal and the systool output.
And

seth wrote:

Today my router is on 11th channel.

You don't control the router config to limit its channels?
If the regdomain in burned into the NICs firmware, you'll likely never get into those channels.

Re: [Unsolvable] Can't find My wifi ssid on laptop

http://0x0.st/HJXl.txt ,  what is systool? I don't know if you missed it but in last and before the last message, I have mentioned that setting reg domain was successful. So it's certainly not burned into hardware.

Re: [Unsolvable] Can't find My wifi ssid on laptop

"man systool" and see #6 beyond the code boxes and I generally ignore what users assert - the OP clearly indicates the regdomain to be 00 and that's the last thing I've seen.
*How* did you "successfully" set the regdomain and *how* did you confirm that?

The journal has wpa_supplicant all over the place

Oct 17 14:55:13 amit-dell wpa_supplicant[677]: wlp2s0: CTRL-EVENT-REGDOM-CHANGE init=CORE type=WORLD
Oct 17 14:55:13 amit-dell wpa_supplicant[677]: wlp2s0: CTRL-EVENT-REGDOM-CHANGE init=USER type=COUNTRY alpha2=IN
Oct 17 14:55:14 amit-dell wpa_supplicant[677]: wlp2s0: CTRL-EVENT-REGDOM-CHANGE init=COUNTRY_IE type=COUNTRY alpha2=IN

but that's meaningless in and by itself.

Did you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … ory_domain ?
Can you set the regulatory domain w/ "iw reg set IN" and confirm that w/ "iw reg get"?
Did you attempt to set the domain in cfg80211 ?

However: you've a  broadcom chip (condolences) and past records show that it generally gives two fucks about any attempts to set a regulatory domain sad

For the sake of it here's the output of

Yes I have already tried those and `iw` command certainly wasn't working. Something which needed a reboot have worked for me. I have mentioned all of my attempts

Re: [Unsolvable] Can't find My wifi ssid on laptop

The output in #5 is borderline meaningless.

Why is there no output about the phy#n in "iw reg get" but only the global output?
Was the NIC not attached or rfkill'd when running that?
(Though w/ the mentioned links I'm afraid the answer is "because it's a broadcom chip")

Edit:

Something which needed a reboot have worked for me

What? So it does work?

For clarification, I certainly won't read through some askubuntu threads to guess what in there you might have done with what possible results.
That's not how this works.

Re: [Unsolvable] Can't find My wifi ssid on laptop

So, Broadcom chips aren't able to find 5Ghz and channels beyond 11. This is what should I take home right? My one of phone also isn't able to scan for SSID which connects through 5Ghz band. So probably legacy deivces don't support it at all.

Re: [Unsolvable] Can't find My wifi ssid on laptop

The take-home info is that for all we know you cannot effectively control their regdom, at least not w/ the linux drivers (the broadcom chips are the only ones that get afforded their own page in the arge wiki because they suck that much…)

The 5GHz situation is unrelated - at least channels 32-68 are available world-wide
But your chip also frequently shows up, https://www.google.com/search?q=14e4%3A4365%205ghz
And then oc "5GHz" isn't a thing, the chip might support a/h/n but your AP is configured for ac or ax

Re: [Unsolvable] Can't find My wifi ssid on laptop

Ok It's again sunday, all of my neighbours turned on their wifi and my wifi is again using channel 13 and I am unable to find it. I wanted to know if issue for the 5Ghz connection can be troubleshooted. I learnt that channel should be 40 and also changed "select mode" to "11a/n mixed mode".http://0x0.st/HJvl.png.But these changes didn't created any difference.

No it was neither rfkilled nor disassembled. Don't know why only the global output.

All of the things are also mentioned in arch wiki too(I just rediscovered them later), askubuntu threads just tend to indexed higher on search engines.

Parameters:
bss_entries_limit   = "1000"
cfg80211_disable_40mhz_24ghz= "N"

Where? Cause it's not in the output of #11 *at all*.

All of the things are also mentioned in arch wiki too

The point is that you've not actually explained what *you* did and what the outcome was *for you*, but referenced some forum threads - what says nothing but that you've seen them.

Assuming that we're not gonna set the proper reg domain on the broadcom chip, configure "Select Channel" in your router to US or USA or Northern America to restrict it to channels 1-11

This is the part I was looking at to conclude that I have desired regdom set for me. Earlier it was 00.

I had linked something instead of stating what I did because I felt I should back it with references why I did so?

$ cat /etc/default/crda

REGDOMAIN=IN
$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/wifi.conf

options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom="IN"

Actually that's for 5Ghz band which is completely missing. For 2.4Ghz it doesn't have any such options.

You don't even seem able to select the mode…
Can you scroll down there? What can you select under "rate" (currently "auto")?
Still set the 5GHz to US, maybe it carries over to the 2.4GHz

It is a drop down of rates like 30mbps, 60mbps, 90mbps,...

seth wrote:

No it doesn't helps.
I guess it's the issue of broadcom chip only because I got a new machine and I found it also had regdom set as global(by default) and still can detect everything - 2.4, 5 Ghz without any extra setup. Also, I was able to connect to wifi through liveusb too. So AP doesn't have any issue, it's hardware problem only.
