Yes, I believe you are correct. However, I wouldn't want my system configs to be in XML format. Can you imaging having to hack a XML file everytime you wanted to make a small change in the system config.

/me would never touch XML lol

I think the vista menu in Gnome is just another way of trying to get Windows users over to Linux .. after all they are used to having huge slabs of menus and icons all over there screen...

Re: Novell slab menu

I kind of like the slab menu. It seems you can just click the menu button and type to get the program you want, which is neat.

speaking of gconf..
an interesting project, called elektra, is another attempt to give linux a single config registry type thingy...
http://www.libelektra.org/

They use a library instead of a daemon, to access the confs, which is very nice... that way, it can be used during boot time (even init).

Or even Tenor ;-)

Re: Novell slab menu

I installed it from AUR.

However whenever I go to add it to my gnome panel, it crashes and the "tell developers" window pops up.

Anyone else get this error?

Re: Novell slab menu

It looks like gnome cvs calls it gnome-main-menu now not slab - so the AUR package needs some tweaking in order to get it to work.  I was able to make a package out of it but after installation it seems as if recent applications feature does not work.   Any chance of getting an updated PKGBUILD with patches?

Also, does anyone know how to have the search feature in the main page instead of clicking on more applications?
