[SOLVED] Pacman error can't resolve hosts when installing packages

Whatever the cause of this problem is, I can't connect to the internet (I don't have a web browser installed yet, so I can't test if that works) to perform basic setup tasks. I thought it might be an issue with my mirrorlist but even after manually updating it using info from https://archlinux.org/mirrorlist/ I keep getting the same error. I've had quite a long day trying to solve this issue by reading through the forums and wiki with no luck, so I'd appreciate some help with this.

I keep getting the same error.

Aha. And *what* error?
Please don't paraphrase, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855

Also

ip a
ip r
ping -c1 _gateway
ping -c1 8.8.8.8
ping -c1 google.com

Re: [SOLVED] Pacman error can't resolve hosts when installing packages

Sorry, the error is

error: failed retrieving file name of file from mirror url : Could not resolve host: mirror url

repeated once for every mirror pacman attempted to connect to. At the end of the list of error messages, there's also this bit

warning: failed to retrieve some files
error: failed to commit transaction (invalid url for server)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

I tried those commands you listed and got this output (I'll list the output of ip a in a bit; my fingers are tired from typing this all out on my phone. And ip r didn't display anything)

ping: _gateway: Temporary failure in name resolution

ping: connect: Network is unreachable

ping: archlinux.org: Temporary failure in name resolution

So you don't have a route - what do you use to configure your network itfp?

Edit: you can btw. also link photos of your display, just don't embed them please.

Re: [SOLVED] Pacman error can't resolve hosts when installing packages

I installed NetworkManager with the operating system.

Edit: I rummaged around a bit in the manual page and realized that though my WiFi network was listed in the known connections it wasn't active for some reason (strange, since I distinctly remember connecting some time ago. I'm guessing it disconnected on reboot for some reason, though that doesn't explain why it seems to have forgotten the password). In any case, I'm all good now so thanks for the help.
