First thing first .... this was the packages that have been upgraded.
The first problem I got was with dbus .... this is in the news in the home page dbus-broker-units vs dbus-daemon-units.
I accept to switch to dbus-broker-units, but I got dbus errors and the graphical session didn't start .... even networkmanager failed ..... so I switched back to dbus-daemon-units
Dbus errors were gone, network nanager works .... but lightdm didn't.
I solved the lightdm problem changing the greeter.
Now, I can start and login, but the session take a lot of time to start (I have a xeon with 12 core, 48gb of ram, 512gb nvme samsung ... everything is usually blazing fast).
I got no error on dmesg. Character in conky are messed up ..
This time I don't know where to start to try to understand what's going on.
TIA.

Might be unrelated, but who owns /usr/lib/libcnbpo407.so and /usr/lib/libcnbpo407.so.1.0.1?
Those look suspicious.

I think is unrelated, I had been this messagges for sometimes, is not something new ... I was a bit lazy and didn't do anything about since I have no problem with them.
Anyway ...

Maybe try rebuilding the font cache:
fc-cache -f -v

Please post your complete system journal for the boot:
sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st
Edit: that looks more like a rendering issue and I'm already prepared to rant about the simplydumb idea
Edit #2: in that light, please also post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General

About conky .... it seems characters overlap as the time goes by. So, maybe, it's not something about the font itself ...

Don't worry about fsck ... I force the check at every boot since I usually keep the pc up for days (just suspend it at night). Usually every 10-20 days I update the system and reboot forcing fsck.
I disable systemd-networkd.
What about simpledrm and nvidia driver? Should I remove simpledrm, since, from what I see around, there seems to be problems with nvidia driver ... ??

That's all fine - I just had hoped I could blame it a bit
What's the outcome of the network cleanup?

I didn't notice anything .... when I log in, still take 20 seconds or more to load everything .... up to this morning, everything loads up immediately (xfce bars, plank dockbar, etc ...)
Since everything seems to work fine after that, I wonder if it has something to do with the xfce session startup itself ...
how can I check?

There seems some noise around at-spi-dbus-bus.service - if you don't rely on a11y features you could "export NO_AT_BRIDGE=1"

Done, but not help.
If I log out and login again, same story .... so whatever it is, happens after the log in with lightdm into the xfce session.

See whether sth. like lxqt still starts swiftly, post an udpated journal and in doubt see the ~/.xsession-erors

I solved the problem .... when I switched back to dbus-daemon-units, I forgot to remove dbus-broker ... I remove only dbus-broker-units.
Now everything is quick again.
The only problem is conky .... do you see anything off here:

This is coming from
own_window yes
own_window_transparent yes
Apparently conky fails to obtain a background pixmp - does the issue go away when you restart it after the session started?
Offline
If I kill it and restart it, no change .... still messup as before, it clearly keep writing over and over without cleaning the area before updating.

Does it help if you set a root pixmap
feh --bg-fill /path/to/some/wallpaper.jpg
resp. when you use "own_window_transparent no"?

own_window_transparent no
solved the problem
Thanks.

That's only half-a-fix, you're losing the fake transparency, no?

Yes. Anyway is not a big deal ... I use dark wallpaper, so a black backgroud for conky is not annoying.
Whatever the problem is, could I have any other problem? If not, is ok as it is.

Did you try to set the root pixmap?
Does conky misbehave if you disable the compositor?
Offline
Did you try to set the root pixmap?
I didn't because I haven't feh .... I use ristretto and nomacs. Can I setup the root pixmap in a different way?
Does conky misbehave if you disable the compositor?
I will give it a try ...
