wpa_supplicant temporarily blacklists most recent BSSID after suspend

I have a home wifi network with an ISP-supplied modem/router combo, an outdoor TP-link access point, and an indoor TP-link access point. I'm located right next to the indoor AP.  All three are serving one 5Ghz network with the same SSID ("Velocity") and the same encryption settings.

When I first start the wpa_supplicant service, I can see in wpa_gui that it scans the network and picks the BSSID of the indoor AP (5c:62:) as it has the strongest signal (-40dB) by far, and connects to it successfully.

But if I close the lid of my laptop, which will make it suspend, and open it again 2 seconds later, wpa_supplicant starts reconnecting, and picks the BSSID of either the router or the oudoor unit, even though they both have signal below -70dB.

So it looks like wpa_supplicant decides to blacklist my most recent and strongest BSSID after suspend for some reason. If I enable the bgscan in the conf file, it will eventually get around to connecting me to the indoor AP, but only after the 10s blacklist is over! Is this DEAUTH event normal when resuming? It looks like that's what's triggering the blacklist. I get the same behaviour in version 2.9.

Here's the full log. I manually echoed "-----SUSPEND-----" to mark where I suspended and resumed the laptop. It's probably easier to copy it into a code editor to follow it with line numbers.

I really don't see how that's related to this DEAUTH/blacklist behaviour. I'm sticking with wpa_supplicant for home use for the time being.

If you use wpa_supplicant with the dbus interface, then you can add some sort of on suspend service that tells wpa_supplicant that the disconnect is expected.

Edit: As for the discovered vulnerabilities:
The iwd vulnerability is described really badly. The summary sounds as if using a client with iwd is vulnerable, but the text later only talks about iwd in AP mode, so I guess only an AP ran with iwd would be vulnerable and that is even rarer.
The wpa_supplicant bug seems a bit overblown. If the certificate is not verified, then it does not matter if the authentication is skipped or simply faked. https://networkradius.com/articles/2021 … ofing.html

@progandy Thanks. So as I understand it, wpa_supplicant itself doesn't know the difference between an AP that's kicked a user and should be tempo-blacklisted and a disconnect due to suspend, and needs to be told via d-bus.

I guess I'll need to experiment with dbus-send and tell logind to run a shell script on suspend which includes this dbus-send line. I'm surprised there's no ready-made solution for this. I guess most people use NetworkManager with a DE that handles this for them.

Would "wpa_actiond" help with this, or is it unrelated?
