I'm trying to get MRTG to work, and I have installed the package and am trying to create a config using:
cfgmaker --global 'WorkDir: /home/httpd/mrtg' --global 'Options[_]: bits, growright' --output /etc/mrtg.cfg localhost
It returns an error that there was no snmp response:

Really don't know how to procede from here. Any ideas?

Really not seeing the problem, I have net-snmp installed and the snmp daemon is running. I see no configuration options for it, and iptables is not blocking it.

is public really your community string?

Also, what do the two lines in those files that are erroring out reference?

First off...
Community String? What's that?
Sorry if that's a stupid question but I have never seen that before.
Anyway, I'll go look into those files...
This is with the mrtg package in the normal repo by the way.

Looked up the documentation for snmpd, configured it, and all is well. Wish the net-snmp package maintainer would put a config file in the package...
