Chromium has no sync option

Hello guys, I have been using chromium browser on my installs for quite a while. There is one thing tho that I do not understand, why on arch the sync option is not available and on debian it is. How do I enable it?

Re: Chromium has no sync option

What "sync option"?
vsync, google sync, browser update,…?

Please don't paraphrase, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855

In case of "google sync", see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Chromium and https://archlinux.org/news/chromium-los … rly-march/  - there's a difference between chromium and chrome and year you were looking at debian, resp. the version matters, too - let alone whether it actually works.

Re: Chromium has no sync option

I am speaking about google sync. On an up to date debian bookworm with chromium browser Version: 122.0.6261.128-1~deb12u1 the google sync option is working out of the box. So i am wondering what are the differences between the two since on one distro its available and on another no.
By the way the year is 2024 on both systems.

Re: Chromium has no sync option

Did you see the linked wiki/announcement?
It's been diesabled because google withdrew access for anything but chrome.

https://metadata.ftp-master.debian.org/ … _changelog as several refereneces to ungoogled chromium, so it might actually be https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ungoogled-chromium - idk whether it provides a sync feature, but such would naturally sidestep the google-problem.
Alternatively debian might have opted for one of the mentioned, temporary, workarounds.

You'll have to ask the debian maintainers, but officially chromium cannot use google sync.

Re: Chromium has no sync option

If you provide a valid API key it still works, but generating one is a bit involved e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments … atures_on/

Re: Chromium has no sync option

Even the chrome API key still works (both options are mentioned in the linked wiki), but the operative term is "still" and wrt the OPs question: while  don't know what they're doing, my money would, because of Debians nimbus, be on using ungoogled-chromium and an therefore alternative service. *shrug*
