[SOLVED] Unable to see 6Ghz wifi networks

I just purchased a new mesh wifi network that supports 6Ghz.  The installed network card on my workstation is a tp-link TX3000 (6Ghz supported) and although I can see and connect to 2.4/5Ghz networks, Im unable to see any 6Ghz network.  Have confirmed the network is broadcasting, as Im able to connect to 6Ghz using my cell.  Everything seems to be running correctly on my machine, Im running NetworkManager with no obvious errors in the logs.  BIOS is up to date so possible I might need to upgrade my driver or firmware?

Im assuming 6GHz is supported so Im hoping you have some suggestions on what I should try next?

UPDATE: I did update my wireless drivers using Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz that can be found at https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en … eless.html.  Althought this did get the Bluetooth option working, I still cannot see any 6GHz networks.

I appreciate your time and help.

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to see 6Ghz wifi networks

Just a guess, but your regulatory domain is not set.   https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ … ory_domain

Set it, and if the card supports it, and if it is legal in your domain, you should see the frequencies show up in

iw list | grep -A 15 Frequencies:

And now, one of my pet peeves.   GHz, if you please. The SI abbreviation for hertz is Hz.  Personally, I think the unit should be capitalized in honor of Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, but I am not going to gain traction on that one.  Alas, I digress...

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to see 6Ghz wifi networks

So it is written, so Hz it shall be!

I did notice the regulatory domain was set to global, I have no idea why I thought that would be okay???

As you recommended I can temporarily set the domain to US using # iw reg set US

❯ iw reg get

since this is only temporary I installed wireless-regdb, and commented out

rebooted and now iw reg looks better!

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to see 6Ghz wifi networks

TP-Link.com wrote:

What’s WiFi 6E?
Simply put, WiFi 6E means WiFi 6 extended to the 6 GHz band. WiFi 6E works with the same standard as WiFi 6 but with an extended spectrum. 6 GHz is the new frequency band ranging from 5.925 GHz to 7.125 GHz, allowing up to 1,200 MHz of additional spectrum. Unlike the existing bands on which channels are currently crammed into the limited spectrum, 6 GHz band exists without overlap or interference. Access to the 6 GHz frequency brings more bandwidth, faster speeds, and lower latency, opening up resources for future innovations like in AR/VR, 8K streaming and more.

*WiFi 6 is the next-gen standard in WiFi technology, also known as “AX WiFi” or “802.11ax WiFi”.

So my guess is your card would need to be an tp-link TX3000E.<-- E for extended

Is that the case?

Edit: So, here's your chipset  Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX200NGW
here are the specs: https://techinfodepot.shoutwiki.com/wik … (AX200NGW)
Operating Frequency 2.4 or 5 GHz

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to see 6Ghz wifi networks

Correct.

..ahh sounds like I might need the Intel AX210 driver instead of the AX200??  Feeling pretty confident about this so I downloaded the driver and copied it over to my /lib/firmware directory but its still loading the AX200 driver.

The readme states

The file iwlwifi-ty-a0-gf-a0-59.ucode provided in this package must be present on
your system in order for the Intel Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux
(iwlwifi) to operate on your system.

The "-59" in the filename reflects an interface/architecture version number.
It will change only when changes in new uCode releases make the new uCode
incompatible with earlier drivers.

Im assuming this file isnt loading due to all the later versions?..  but I still dont understand why its not loading the 6E version?

I honestly have no idea, so this is simply me guessing.  Is there a way to configure the network controller to use AX210?

	Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi

Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to see 6Ghz wifi networks

If Zod's investigation is to be believed you have the wrong hardware. It does not support the 6Ghz band (You have Wifi6 you'd need Wifi6E)

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to see 6Ghz wifi networks

Going back and looking at the receipts, it should be a 6E.  Guess Ill have to go buy another / different brand
