-ok updates-

Well, i found an old card that is supported by the madwifi module, so i ran:

pacman -S madwifi

then vi'd all my rc.conf etc, rebooted...

iwconifg 

ath0 wireless extensions.....

then i run

su-
iwconfig ath0 power on
    -operation not supported

So how can i power on the device, then Green LED is alight on the card, so it cant all be bad

Plug the device in and get run 'lsusb' in your favourite console, then post the results.

Also do a 'dmesg | tail' just after plugging in the device and also post that, that way we can see whats going on.

what kind of card is it? is it a notebook? sometimes, they need external tools to power on the card (acerhk in example)

It's a pci device, and it's lit up -- it's on.

Give us the output of lspci and dmesg -a (after you plugged the device).

The WG311T should not need an explicite power on.
ath0 has wireless extensions according to your lines? would be fine so far, then you'd just need to configure it (/etc/conf.d/wireless).

Let me mention that i've also troubles getting the wireless running on madwifi at the moment, i find the ap, but never get to the network and can't even get a ping to my router.

Also note: G mode is just supported in Channel6 so far, if your chipset is th AR5212 (NOTE: There are also AR5212A chipsets, take care, they're not really supported by madwifi).
