Ethernet interface not working

My ethernet interface is not working. Cannot be found with ip link

nor with lspci.
I thought that it was somehow related to an upgrade issue: `uname -a` and the linux package not being in sync, since I had that error too. After fixing it, the problem still persists. Any ideas?

One thing I can think of is to check if it's seen and enabled in the BIOS. If it's not seen then it's a hardware issue.

The system is a Dell XPS laptop, and I cannot find the ethernet interface in the BIOS. However, I do not think there is an "Ethernet card" or such, so this should not show up in the BIOS in any case (afaik).
Still, I disabled the BIOS option "Enable UEFI Network Stack" after reading a bit about it and now the interface shows up again. I am unsure if that's what made it work again or it is actually an intermittent issue as there was no system nor BIOS upgrade involved in this.
