[SOLVED] All games crash on recent system update

I play all my games through Steam, and I've found that an update that I did on 4th May 2024 has started to cause either all my games to crash on start up, or they will crash after about a minute or two of playing. This includes games which I have many hours in and haven't had issues with until now.

I thought that this might be an issue with Proton, but this does not seem to be the case as I've tried to play Counter Strike 2 (which is a native Linux game) but to no avail. Also tried using other versions of Proton but still the same problem.

I usually run on Wayland but tried switching to X11 and this also does not resolve the issue.

I don't really know the best way to debug a problem like this, so any feedback on where to look would be appreciated. If it helps my uname -a output is:

Linux arch 6.8.9-arch1-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu, 02 May 2024 17:49:46 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Re: [SOLVED] All games crash on recent system update

It's very likely that you encounter AMDGPU issue #3343 ("Bisected: Games crash on 6.9rc-5+/6.8.9+/6.6.30+ if above 4g decoding/resize bar is disabled or not supported"). See also https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=295456 . Maybe you can try to set "Resizable BAR" to enable and see if it goes well.

Yes this seems to be the issue. Enabling 4G decoding in UEFI gets around the problem. Thank you!
