Hello everyone
I want to use a old notebook as a backup server, it's a Dell Inspiron 15 5566. It use RTL8106E as a ethernet controller which is 10/100 Mbps. When I run both speedtest++ and speedtest-cli I have something like ~5 Mbps of download and ~100 Mpbs of upload. I also noticed that when I run the test with a monitor connected the download speed is normal haha.
How I can fix that?
Sorry for my english, it's not my main language.

"monitor" or "dock"?
Is the behaviour absoolutely consistent and not just coincidental with a fluke?
When the monitor is connected, the lid is closed, otherwise open?
Is the lid the cause?
Is the plug firmly seated in the slot or is it tighter when the lid is closed?

It's a monitor.
I tested it again today and it still happens.
The lid is always closed.
I don't know. Even if I open it, the problem continues to happen.
Well... I updated the kernel to 6.9.3 and it looks like the download speed is normal again.
But I'm still curious as to why this happened.

Fluke?
We can only look at the situation in case it shows up again, it's impossible to gage what might have happened there.
The most common way users screw up their network configuration is by running multiple network managing daemons concurrently and there migth have been driver issues, but nothing of that would be really explain the external monitor condition.

I think it's not. As I said before, I tested multiple times, with monitor connected and disconnected, and the same behavior kept happen.
But now everything is fine now.
Thank you for being willing to help me.
