when I open a Libreoffice Base file it crashes.
I had never used it before, so I don't know if it ever worked.

All the others work(write,calc,...), only base doesn't work.
I get this message.

Re: [SOLVED] Libreoffice Base crashes on startup

Looks rather like it's using gtk3 - but you're also running KDE?
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/LibreOffice#Theme

Try "SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=generic" or "SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=qt6" and install https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Debuginfod for (hopefully) more backtrace symbols.
Are there any LO error messages whn running it from an interactive shell?

Re: [SOLVED] Libreoffice Base crashes on startup

No, I mean when you type "lobase" into an interactive shell.

Re: [SOLVED] Libreoffice Base crashes on startup

like this?

[alex@marale ~]$ lobase
javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment!
Warning: failed to read path from javaldx
free(): double free detected in tcache 2

.
I'm a normal person who installed Arch Linux, forgive me if I don't understand.

Re: [SOLVED] Libreoffice Base crashes on startup

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/LibreO … stallation
Java is an optional dependency for libreoffice base

https://www.reddit.com/r/libreoffice/co … e_crashes/
And from the backtrace that's there:

#0 0x00007a27b4893c4f _ZN3vcl6Window7disposeEv (libvcllo.so + 0x293c4f)
#1 0x00007a27b4894928 _ZN3vcl6WindowD2Ev (libvcllo.so + 0x294928)
#2 0x00007a27b4729bfd n/a (libvcllo.so + 0x129bfd)
#3 0x00007a27b48ab496 _ZN10WorkWindowC2EPN3vcl6WindowEl (libvcllo.so + 0x2ab496)

are you running a wayland sessiion?

Re: [SOLVED] Libreoffice Base crashes on startup

What happens if you have glibc warn about the memory issue without exiting using MALLOC_CHECK_

MALLOC_CHECK_=1 lobase

I'm on wayland, but I also have x11.
On X11 better, at least it doesn't crash and I have this message.

The connection to the data source "New Database6" could not be established.
No java installation could be found. Please check your installation.at/usr/src/debug/libreoffice-still/libreoffice-7.6.7.2/connectivity/source/commontools/dbexception.cxx:413

What fits the reddit thread - and as pointed out in the wiki, bas optionally requires java for some features (which you don't seem to have installed)

On wayland, does

GDK_BACKEND=x11 lobase

work?

Re: [SOLVED] Libreoffice Base crashes on startup

So basically the native gtk3 vlc fails on wayland but the x11/xwayland version works.
Once you've a usable backtrace you should report a libreoffice bug and until then use the xwayland version.

Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
