Apps that use web-interface (Discord, Cider, Notion) are glitchy

Hi everyone! I've been experiencing problem with apps that use chromium/electron since first install of arch and I didn't found a solution.

Problem description: apps like Discord, Cider, Notion, Obsidian, Google Chrome are in need to disable Hardware Acceleration to work properly. If it's not then I can see some elements (like buttons or pop-up windows) are blinking and fading, text typing is broken (there's something like input delay. I've already typed a word, but on my monitor this word is still types). Everything is laggy.
First I've noticed this while using Discord, then I realized that Notion, Obsidian and Cider behave in that way too.

Re: Apps that use web-interface (Discord, Cider, Notion) are glitchy

Please don't paraphrase, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855
An illustrating screenshot and some details about the system (hardware, display server, drivers…) would probably be helpful.

Electron had issues w/ DRI3, but that's a complete shot in the dark: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ … RI3_issues
Also you probably would not want to use the xf86-video* driver, but that's triple speculation on your hardware, display server and driver…

Yeah, sorry bout paraphrasing
There's system details:
GPU: nVidia GTX 1070 8Gb
CPU: i5-10400F
RAM: DDR4 32Gb 2666MHz
Kernel: Linux-zen
I don't know what display server is, but I think, that's Xorg. I'm running on Plasma Wayland btw

"kwin_wayland" - you might want to try the behavior on plasma/X11 however.

Also you'd need to address whether you're using the proprietary nvidia driver, nvidia-open or nouveau.

Re: Apps that use web-interface (Discord, Cider, Notion) are glitchy

I use nvidia proprietary driver

Driver Version: 550.90.07

On X11 problem remains

Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General as well as the qdbus output and a screeshot illustrating the problem

Re: Apps that use web-interface (Discord, Cider, Notion) are glitchy

NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0

Why do you disable the GSP?
Do the glitches remain if you suspend the compositor (SHIFT+alt+F12, this won't work on wayland)?
Do you get them on wayland with chromium and if you run "chromium --ozone-platform=wayland"?

Re: Apps that use web-interface (Discord, Cider, Notion) are glitchy

1. I have nvidia 555 driver installed and some bugs were fixed with disabling GPU firmware. I forgot to remove this option.
2. Glitches remain
3. I don't really have chromium installed on my pc. Maybe installing it will fix glitches?

3. no, but it'll provide a more reliable testcase.

Re: Apps that use web-interface (Discord, Cider, Notion) are glitchy

You're running on Wayland if that command fixes it. X11 is an older protocol for rendering the display, Wayland is the "would be" successor, but still in development and potentially not fully fleshed out yet. The glitches you're seeing are typical for nvidia with xwayland clients, the nvidia 555 (beta) drivers are supposed to contain a fix for this, you're not currently running those. Most electron clients can be coerced to run natively on wayland, but depending on their underlying electron version might be buggy. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Wayland#Electron

If you want to test X11/xorg instead you'd choose the relevant option for Plasma on X11 in SDDM.
