Yep, that did it, thanks!

update: by problem was I had a non-official package installed that depends on an old specific version of xwayland.
After removing it and updating everything, the startup delay is gone.

Not sure whether masking the service still works1. does xdg-desktop-portal-kde leave behind a https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Core_d … _core_dump
2. Does this also happen w/ a fresh user account?
1. I don't see one. I mean, there is an old SIGABRT entry on `coredumpctl list` (like 2 months old), but it doesn't have a file. Also I would expect newer entries if it would be the culprit.
2. No, it doen't happen for new users. I tried renaming all KDE configs because of this, but I had no success.

Does
ls ~/.config/systemd/user/
differ between the old and new user?

Yes, I had empty `plasma-ksplash-ready.service` and `plasma-ksplash.service` files on the old user (probably from a previous experiment on trying to fix the issue) and the directory didn't exist on the fresh one. Sadly, removing those didn't work.

Did your cleanup efforts include the various https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/KDE#Autostart locations?
(esp ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env/* runs before pretty much everything else)

Those locations are empty.

Just to let y'all know, I was having the exact same issues and was able to fix it by removing
QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt6ct
from my /etc/environment file. I think the issue was that I set the Standard Dialogs to "XDG Desktop Portal", which, if I were to guess, was potentially causing a dependency loop where xdg-desktop-portal would need itself to already be started to load the theme correctly.

I also had that variable set up in my environment (at `~/.config/environment.d/envvars.conf`) and removing it fixed the issue for me. Thanks a lot.
