i use my smb almost like a local drive which the way windows network drives works makes it really easy, but on linux i cant figure out how to change the permissions so that user account can read and write to it

Please don't paraphrase, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855
Are you asking about an SMB server or client?
In case of the client, is it a cifs mount or a gio/kio protocol (smb:// in dolphin or nautilus)?
cifs allows uid/gid mapping, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Samba#Manual_mounting but for https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Samba# … figuration I *guess* you'll have to fix the ownership/permissions on the server.

it is a client mounted with cifs and mapping the uid/gid worked to solve my issue, thanks.
