Please try the following:
sudo pacman -U https://pkgbuild.com/\~gromit/linux-bisection-kernels/linux-mainline-v6.8.rc6.r1719.g4b0cb23-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
It is fine

160Hz
It seems to be the same issue, because when I'm in Gnome without HDR, everything works fine, once I enable experimental HDR, it happens.

Wait, I still see the same issue when my screen is at 144Hz in SDDM log in menu.
I can see it on desktop environment when I drop the framerate to 120Hz.
I'm using linux-zen, by the way.
It can also be triggered if I change my refresh rate over 119.94Hz on the desktop, but after I reboot, the desktop environment becomes normal, I can only see it in SDDM.

Could you please try the following? It has the alleged fix backported to 6.10:
sudo pacman -U https://pkgbuild.com/\~gromit/linux-bisection-kernels/linux-mainline-6.10-1.5-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

It works on both Plasma6.1 and Gnome with HDR enabled on 160Hz, it also works on SDDM.

This also appears to work for me on sway. Thank you for your help with this.

Alright that's great news! Now we just have to wait for the stable team to backport it to a stable kernel

Fix now seems to be queued up for stable: https://lore.kernel.org/stable/20240729 … 59b@gregkh

awesome news. do you know what version this will be?
I just updated to 6.10.2-arch1-1 and the flickering is still there, only when using compositors, ie picom.

Yes this will be released with the next stable kernel (i.e. 6.10.3)

The latest mainline kernel solved the flicker issue, but the frame rate seems to be very unstable.
Mine frequently drops to 138 and then returns to 160 when I'm browsing the web or doing something on the desktop.
If I am playing videos, the older kernel stays at certain fps, like 72 or 96, the new one jumps all over the place.
No matter if adaptive-sync is enabled, it happens.

The flicker happens less on 6.10.3 but it does still happen for me on a 165hz display. I can consistently force it to happen by opening the GNOME Wayland overview and switching to a far away workspace so it has to scroll over a bunch of them. I assume what I'm experiencing is still a related kernel bug and not GNOME, I reverted to 6.9.9 again and it's gone.

the flicker appears to be gone for me on 6.10.4-arch2-1, however when I enable picom, after my monitor dpms turns off, any movement to wake up up and my monitor won't turn on, the only way to get a reboot is with alt+sysrq REISUB.
this was the same behavior I was having with the default xfce compositor at the beginning of the year.
anyone else notice this?
