[SOLVED] Crashed during pacman -Syu

My system crashed right as pacman -Syu was running post-hooks and after that, i got

[FAILED] Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.
[FAILED] Failed to start Create List of Static Device Nodes.
[FAILED] Failed to mount /boot

I tried booting from a live ISO and commenting out the boot partition in /etc/fstab but something seems to have gone wrong as now, when i boot normally i get

mount: /new_root: unknown filesystem type 'ext4'.
dmesg(1) may have more information after failed mount system call
ERROR: Failed to mount 'UUID=f366c2f5-8d36-4a63-a62d-7884b3005c3d' on real root
You are now being dropped into an emergency shell.
sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

Now, if I boot from a live environment and chroot into the system, whenever i run pacman it gives me

ERROR: module not found: '$NAME'

And a lot of them, it doesnt find any modules.

I honestly dont know what to do since i cannot reinstall linux or any packages for that matter. Mkinitcpio -P also gives the same result.

Further, when running mkinitcpio -M -k 6.10.6-arch1-1 the result is

==> Modules autodetected
==> ERROR: Cannot acquire used modules. Unable to use autodetection.

Well, pacman.log doesnt show me the list of packages that were atttempted to sync, and besides, pacman cannot install any packages.

as for https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Pacman … an_upgrade

find /mnt/usr/lib -size 0

gives me (i cannot for the life of me get scp to work) among other things, all the modules in usr/lib/modules/6.10.6-arch1-1/build/include/config/

Could this be the source of the problem?

looks like something went wrong during a kernel upgrade.

Follow the link skunktrader posted and DO NOT chroot..
Use the pacman from the installation iso to re-install linux .

Im not quite sure if something is wrong with my live environment since the pacman from the installation gives the same result, that is, by running

pacman --root=/mnt --cachedir=/mnt/var/cache/pacman/pkg -S linux

i get the same error of it not finding any modules?

Thanks for the help on pastebins, i was really getting frustrated on that.

So i've messed up on a colossal scale here and ive been backing up my files to prepare for a complete reinstall in case that is necessary, but of course I appreciate all the help and would rather want to fix my system.

You can probably also just re-install all packages but you *have* to run teh database fixing pass first and you might have to re-install the kernel afterwards again and it's a good idea to close w/ a -Syu …

Oh wow, thank you so much this worked like a charm!

Everything works pretty much just fine now, i still have some cleanup left to do but my system boots and works as it should.
