I'm using GNOME Classic On Xorg. I also set optimus-manager to hybrid with enabling power management. Some games work fine but other not. Also, when I launch mangohud, I noticed DXVK latency becomes more than 50ms.

Re: CPU Consumes More Than 500% on Top Command [SOLVED]

Service 'org.kde.KWin' does not exist.
I'm using GNOME Classic On Xorg.

Your top output suggest a plasma/wayland session?

I also set optimus-manager to hybrid

Which is default prime, you can ditch OM

I have add environment variables __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia. Also, I have installed switcheroo-control and run enable --now to launch it and add it to startup. Games performance improved with some lagging and DXVK latency becomes less than 30ms, but still give me 250%+ for CPU usage!

COD WWII was working fine when I used Windows but now it shows:

Screenshot-from-2024-09-15-09-14-36.png

It seems I missed something to complete gaming environment.

Re: CPU Consumes More Than 500% on Top Command [SOLVED]

Stop flailing around, remove switcheroo-control, post your xrog log and the output of "prime-run glxinfo -B"  and an actually relevant top batch.
If you move the target all the time (kde => gnome, OM =>  prime => sc) all information becomes dated and weÄll not be able to pin down anything because we can't even look at a specific situation.

I have disabled switcheroo-control and removed it. Yesterday, I switches from KDE wayland and X11 to GNOME. I don't know about this "OM =>  prime => sc" but I have installed nvidia-open and optimus-manager github requirement to set mine to hybrid.

Re: CPU Consumes More Than 500% on Top Command [SOLVED]

xorg.0.log looks like a optimus manager (there's an explicitly config) "hybrid" configuration (there may be a stale config file¹) but is functionally equivalent to the regular prime setup and unsuspicious.
You do not need any tool to control the GPUs - you've an ampere chip and at least w/ the non-open drivers it'll default to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME# … Management

prime-run properly invokes the nvidia chip, the  .1.log is just dated and irrelevant.

Are you running gnome on X11?
We still lack a relevant top illustrating the CPU load, but just to be clear: superturboturkeypuncher³ doesn't run on no CPU…

¹

grep -ri integrated /{etc,usr/share}/X11/xorg.conf*

According to if I am running X11 or not. when I was using KDE, I used X11. But now, I'm using GNOME Classic on Xorg. I don't know if I still use X11 with my gnome.

I'm not using superturboturkeypuncher. I'm using ori and the will of the wisps smile

grep -ri integrated /{etc,usr/share}/X11/xorg.conf* output:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-optimus-manager.conf:   Screen 0 "integrated"

We still lack a relevant top illustrating the CPU load

You can also check nvidia-smi to make sure the game runs on that chip.
I've no idea what "ori" is but if it runs on vulkan (directly or via proton) you might have to set "VK_DRIVER_FILES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json", https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Vulkan … initialize

Thanks a lot, Seth. You helped me a lot. Game [ori and the will of the wisps] now working well with tiny LAGs that don't effect gaming experience. but cpu usage still become crazy. I forgot to tell you that CPU usage becomes more than 500%+ on top and nvtop commands [system monitoring], but on mangohud looks good between 0~100% normally. I'm afraid to cause damage to CPU be over usage but at the same time maybe top and nvtop can't read proton or wine - because it simulate windows - correctly so it gives wrong numbers. I want to finish this issue to set title to SOLVED and let others build safe gaming environment.

Re: CPU Consumes More Than 500% on Top Command [SOLVED]

The 500% means that you're fully utilizing 5 cores - the only interesting question is "with what processes" and the most likely answer is going to be "your game".
As long as the CPU isn't overheating (at which point it'll first throttle and then power down) and you don't end up rendering in software that's not a problem.
Do you have similarily high CPU load w/o mangohud?

Thanks for replying, Seth.

Wonderful! I didn't think that 100% reference to single core at all. Maybe your answers is correct.

When I use heroic only (all games). I will try to run simple windows application using heroic WINE-GE-LATEST and see the result. I will monitor top continuously to collect correct information.

I will try heavy gpu application or game that runs natively on linux.

Also, I will use watch command for cpu info tool to monitor CPU temperature.

How to know that I don't use software rendering to make sure I'm in safe side.

nvidia-smi shows the game process using the GPU

I have added __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1, __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia, VK_DRIVER_FILES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json on Environment Variables to Heroic game Settings => Advanced Tab. I have setup https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases on system32 and syswow64 at drive_c on PREFIX directory for improving directx dll files.

Also, I have created dxvk.conf on prefix game directory for each game:

dxvk.enableAsync = true
dxvk.numCompilerThreads = 4 # Adjust based on your CPU cores
dxvk.enableImageStorage = false
dxvk.hud = compiler

Most games works fine. Others maybe not working good on proton or wine or have issues for themselves.

According to cpu becomes more than 100% because - as Seth said - some monitoring tools monitor single core as 100%. if application uses more than one core, then cpu usage becomes more than 100%. I have test this using mangohud and build-in graphical system monitor that display 0~100% normally while nvtop and top commands display more than 300%.

Thanks Seth to help me built good gaming environment and help me to understand some concepts that I don't know about them.

Edited: I also unchecked Fsync option on heroic game settings and added PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 on environment variables to make sure Fsync is disabled. The result is very good that games didn't use high cpu usage.

\o/

I guess this means and in case please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
