[SOLVED] No internet in VirtualBox guest if host is connected via wifi

Hello,

I have a laptop running ArchLinux. I can connect to internet either with an ethernet cable or with wifi. In both cases the linux host has access to internet.
I have also a Windows 10 guest running in VirtualBox. The virtual machine is configured with a single network adapter attached to NAT.
My user is part of the group vboxusers.
The kernel modules vboxdrv, vboxnetadp and vboxnetflt are loaded.

When I am connected via ethernet cable the windows guest has internet access, when I am connected via wifi the windows guest has no access.

Any idea why the internet connection via wifi is not accessible to the windows guest?

1. What's the output (on the host) of

ip a; ip r

when connected via rj45 and wifi?
2. Can the client still reach the host when the latter is on wifi?
3. Do you restart them VM or change the host connection while the VM is running?
4. Speaking of which, make sure windows fast-start doesn't bite you here (though really, the client should™ be oblivious to the VM/host configuration and only worry about the VMs abstraction.
5. What's the actual metric for "no internet" on windows? What does "netstat" report rand what about "ping google.com" and "ping 8.8.8.8"?

I found a fix. I attached the network adapter of the virtual machine to a "NAT network" (instead of NAT) and the window guest now can ping google.com, 8.8.8.8, ... in both cases
