[SOLVED] No sound on laptop after changing battery out.

After changing my laptop battery out I now have no sound.
I looked at all the connector cables . They seem to be connected .
Not sure what happened.
I printed this from the journal.
Let me know if you need a whole journal.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on laptop after changing battery out.

Please post the full journal. I'm seeing snd_soc_avs which always triggers an allergic reaction, try blacklisting that. Alternatively there are some reports with issues for the current alsa-ucm-conf package so if that coincided with an update maybe something along those lines: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=301300

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on laptop after changing battery out.

Here is the journal file:
http://0x0.st/X5hk.txt

I tried a couple of different downgrade files but it didn't change anything.

I haven't done downgrading before so I hope I did it correctly.

So I have reinstalled it back to current.

Something else I forgot to mention.   Sound not working in Window either.   It can't find sound card either.  I'll go get the exact message if that matters.
It says No audio device is installed.
I hope I didn't screw up the motherboard.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on laptop after changing battery out.

Then probably the integrated card simply getting disable due to the CMOS reset. Check your UEFI setting whether there's a setting to enable the audio card explicitly.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on laptop after changing battery out.

I looked at every setting in the Bios/UEFI and there is nothing on this laptop that has to do with sound.

I did discover something new.

Bluetooth does not work in Linux on this Laptop. However Bluetooth does work in Windows.
So I connected to my Alexa Echo plus and it played sound through the bluetooth speaker.

It  just won't play sound through the laptop speakers

I'm not sure what else to try.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on laptop after changing battery out.

BT is an entirely different sound card so that's not further surprising. What output do you get from

sudo dmesg | grep -iE 'snd|sof'
aplay -l
pactl list cards

also make sure your system is up to date there was a potential regression in snd init due to a bug in alsa-ucm-conf and your log looks like it uses those. The fix should be in the just released 1.2.13-2

This says I am up to date with -1 . Should I change mirrors or use downgrade to upgrade?

I think I am going to open it up again and check the cables one more time.
I'll report back after I do that to see if it made a difference.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on laptop after changing battery out.

FWIW that's not up to date, you update with pacman -Syu, make sure you get alsa-ucm-conf 1.2.13-2

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on laptop after changing battery out.

Did this change anything about these outputs? If it didn't then you currently simply don't have a integrated card visible. That it also fails in Windows basically only leaves HW or UEFI misconfig.

Somewhat of a straw to grasp try a /etc/modprobe.d/disableSof.conf

options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=1

and rebooting.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound on laptop after changing battery out.

It did change the following but still no sound.
I am going to look at the cables inside again Friday.
I'll post back here what I find out.

[demo@archlinux ~]$ sudo dmesg | grep -iE 'snd|sof'
[ 0.047442] software IO TLB: area num 8.
[ 0.390813] PCI-DMA: Using software bounce buffering for IO (SWIOTLB)

[ 6.471745] pps_core: Software ver. 5.3.6 - Copyright 2005-2007 Rodolfo Giometti <giometti@linux.it>
[    6.488882] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)
[ 6.489036] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: bound 0000:00:02.0 (ops i915_audio_component_bind_ops [i915])

I tried reconnecting the ribbon cable for the speakers and the connector won't lock down onto the ribbon cable.
I am not going to buy a new motherboard for this. Too expensive.
I bought a usb bluetooth adapter and am going to use it with bluetooth speakers for sound.
Thanks for the help.
