This issue occurs only when using the system for some time. It can happen minutes after launch, it can happen days after launch.

Re: Periodic fatal USB failure

You could try knoppix on a lazy sunday afternoon and explore some software you've never tried before or so.
It'll likely help to identify whether this is a HW issue.

Have you ever posted a complete system journal contexting the errors and also "lspci -tvnn" and "lsusb -tv" to illustrate the būs configuration in a working state?

I'll check if my Nvidia GPU works with it and will give it a shot.

Re: Periodic fatal USB failure

There're only two USB hubs and they're on the same PCI as your GPU/audio - the Android from #26 is

    |__ Port 001: Dev 015, If 0, Class=Wireless, Driver=rndis_host, 480M
ID 04e8:6863 Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd Galaxy series, misc. (tethering mode)
    |__ Port 001: Dev 015, If 1, Class=CDC Data, Driver=rndis_host, 480M
ID 04e8:6863 Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd Galaxy series, misc. (tethering mode)

Do you always use it for/in tethering mode?

Also the snippet starts w/

[ 3537.544248] rndis_host 1-1:1.0 enp5s0f3u1: unregister 'rndis_host' usb-0000:05:00.3-1, RNDIS device

Don't be afraid to call things by their proper names.

I couldn't post here for a good while but I was busy troubleshooting the issue. Yes, my phone is my only source of internet connection and at some point just out of curiosity I decided to change my USB layout. I plugged my SPU into the USB 2.0 port, and my mouse into the USB 3.0 port. My phone is still plugged into the USB-C port.

It's been more than 2 months... And this issue is not appearing anymore. I've tried using my previous layout again and it happened in the middle of the gaming session.

I suppose it has something to do with the bus width that may or may not be enough to work with two speedy devices at the same time, or the power supply that is not enough to power them all. When my USB 3.0 port is used passively with no speedy stuff plugged into it - the issue is simply not there.

EDIT: I also checked the behavior of my phone during USB issues by quickly unplugging and re-plugging the cable. My phone reconnects even after the connection was totally lost. This means if there is some issue with the hub, my phone instantly reconnects and continues to load it while it maybe needs a few seconds to catch a breath. As the result - it just dies until reboot.

Yeah, this phone is indeed a devil here. I hate it, and I hate that it is my only way to browse the web but it is what it is I guess.

Re: Periodic fatal USB failure

Does the phone still flicker in the current setup? (show, disappear, show, disappear, show…)
If you've extremely fast internet that could probably outpace the USB, but the reconnection behavior would be a weird response and the phone in tethering mode (it doesn't charge?) outpowering usb-c 3.x seems implausible.
