As you can see, GNOME's own system proxy is enabled and the Google site is opened in the browser, but even though I have specified the proxy in the proxychains configuration file too, it is not working. Am I doing something wrong?

Some programs ignore the proxy settings that are imposed by proxychains, maybe because the way the program uses proxies is different. You will need to put the proxy on the browser settings itself.
You may want to find a program that is able to take the proxy and convert it to a VPN so all the traffic that you send on your computer is sent trough the VPN, but I'm not sure if there is a tool that is actually able to do that.
And it seems that you are setting your proxy to localhost on port 12334? Proxychains is not a proxy server so I suppose you have your actual proxy running trough a tunnel or something like that on that port right?
