[Solved] AMD GPU not working - Unable to install drivers

Trying to install Arch on my new laptop (ASUS Vivobook S14 - Ryzen 9 HZ, Radeon graphics), but I’m running into issues with the GPU.

Symptoms:

Screen randomly freezes, requiring a hard reset.
nomodeset allows the system to run but disables animations and GPU acceleration (temporary workaround).
'inxi -G' reports 'driver: N/A' despite installing the required packages.

What I’ve tried:
sudo pacman -S xf86-video-amdgpu mesa lib32-mesa vulkan-radeon lib32-vulkan-radeon
trying to install drivers from amd support (.deb) page using debtap.
tried open source and proprietary.

Removing 'nomodeset' causes the system to crash immediately.

Tried MANJARO - Same issue.
Tried KALI, UBUNTU - NO ISSUES.
WINDOWS - No issues.
(So i guess this only happens on Arch distors)

journalctl -b -1 -p 4 --no-pager

Any advice on properly setting up the AMD GPU? Let me know if more logs or outputs are needed.

Solution:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/linu … ine-um5606

Currently linux-mainline-um5606AUR, xrt-npu-gitAUR, and amdxdna-driver-binAUR are all needed to get the NPU to work.

Re: [Solved] AMD GPU not working - Unable to install drivers

You don't need drivers and you don't need debtap get rid of whatever it was you tried to do here. The only thing you "need" is mesa and linux-firmware.  When a crash happens, instead of hard resetting setup SysRq and use the REISUB sequence to "safely" reboot, afterwards on booting again post the complete journal of the crashing boot

sudo journalctl -b-1 | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

The main difference between "no issues" Ubuntu will be the kernel, so the LTS kernel might be another avenue to test, but since the switchover to 6.12 as the LTS kernel will happen any moment, that's not going to be a sustainable solution.

That thread is about the vega/raven/raven2 chipsets , OP uses a much newer RDNA3.5 from 2024 .

Can you test with a simple X window manager like openbox ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

I am using systmd. Does it not happen in grub? I can switch to grub in that case.

Re: [Solved] AMD GPU not working - Unable to install drivers

Nope. its not related to the bootloader, I just wanted to know for suggesting the solution.
here is what you are going to do:

yay -S xrt-npu-git amdxdna-driver-bin

vim /boot/loader/entries/arch.conf (or, whatever timestamp.conf you have there for default)
On the line starting with options ... , add these:
amdgpu.si_support=1 amdgpu.cik_support=1 radeon.si_support=0 radeon.cik_support=0 amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x600 amdgpu.dpm=0

remove nomodeset, reboot.

next time in any case you install the os, do these chroot-ing, so you get it done with installation.

tell me how it goes.

Hello. I have the same problem and the same CPU. In my opinion, the main problem is that the amdgpu firmware `isp_4_1_0.bin` failed to start. This occurs because the file is missing at `/lib/firmware/amdgpu`, but the `isp_4_1_1.bin` exists. So dpm can't work properly (just my opinion). If you try to disable it, everything is OK, but you could forget about energy efficiency. I was wrong about the amdgpu parameters* It is about overriding the dynamic power management. Trying to test it too.
