I've been running into this issue where the Edge 30 Pro cannot do USB tethering
After enabling it on the phone, nothing happens on the PC, it doesn't even get recognized with "ip a"
I also saw that it's recognized about 10 times on the USB tree? reports the exact same data, just reported a billion times
I also tried other phones such as the Redmi note 7 and the Moto G7 and they work flawlessly, so it seems to be an Edge 30 issue
My guess is that it's not sending data via RNDIS, but rather using its own proprietary mode which i didn't manage to change, if anyone has any ideas i'm willing to listen
Just in case, currently using NetworkManager, and again, it's setup correctly as tethering works in other phones, just not the edge 30 pro, and i fear it might be the case with every Smart Connect phone from Motorola

recognized about 10 times
Sounds like a faulty cable to me. Try a different one, even if it works with the other two phones.
Does file sharing work? https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Media_ … r_Protocol

It works with my moto G30 (a little more recent than yours), and motorola usually doesn't change all to much to their OS.

Why I run Arch? To "BTW I run Arch" the guy one grade younger.
And to let my siblings and cousins laugh at Arsch Linux...

Don't worry, I've tried 3 different cables, they all behave the same, the phone also works fine on windows
Does file sharing work?
Yes, filesharing works normally
Finally I don't think the g30 has smart connect, I do feel like it could be a smart connect issue as it has special hotspot and tethering modes that expect windows, an update might have broken compatibility with Linux and I don't see a clear way to fix it

it doesn't even get recognized with "ip a"
Run
dmesg -W
attach the phone for tethering and post the tail that generates.

Wait for kernel 6.14.6.

For all we know this problem is limited to NM only, dhcpcd or networkd don't care and treat the modem like any other network device.
