Has anyone managed to get RDR2 running on steam. I must have tried a million solutions around the internet, and none work. I even tried buying direct from Rockstar and using Lutris with no success.
It either quits right away, or logs in, and eventually gets to what should be the menu, where it hangs at a black window.
My config is in my signature (and it's certainly not lack of resources), and it runs fine on Windows.
RDR 1 works just fine, and I can't comment on other Rock Star games (i have never tried and do not now play, or intend to buy GTA).
Apart from DiRT (which I've pretty much given up on) it's the only game I can't get working, and the collection includes Cyberpunk2077, SoTR (and the earlier Tomb Raider), The Witcher trilogy, Trine 2, which all work without issue.
My googling says people have it running on LInux with no issues, but not here.
EDIT. Just in case, whilst I usually use Linux-zen, I've tried with Linux-LTS, and whilst I usually use xfce4 on X11, I've tried with Plasma on Wayland. All have the same problem, and all hang (not quit) at pretty much the same point. Doesn't seem to make much difference which Proton version I use (though early version just refuse to even try).

I've just spotted this thread - https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=303710
Is it likely to be related, and would I be better just asking for a refund? (I'm UK based, and still covered by distance selling rules, for perhaps another week).

Nope - sorry guys, nothing is working. The only difference is that I can get a black screen instead of a black window. I may have to resort to keeping Windows around just for this.
Thanks for trying, though.

Just an update. Inexplicably, it's started working. Not a wine update that's done it (I've pinned my wine version at the moment). There has been an nvidia driver update, but since people had it working before, I doubt it's that. The only significant change I can think of is that I upgraded my nvme drive from a 1TB to a 2TB, and cloned my boot drive, which includes a partition with steam games on it to the new drive first, but I fail to see how that would make a difference.
Nevertheless, seems to be good for now, and leaves me no more reasons to boot Windows (for now).

From what I remember this game gives black screen when using dx12, but works with vulkan. So you need to change the setting through the ini file. Also has problem with wine's vulkan version. I don't remember which version, but is one of VulkanRT-1.3.280.0 or VulkanRT-1.1.108.0(I have both in redistributables and I don't remember which was already there).
