[Solved and big THANK YOU to the devs] After HAL upgrade...

...I cannot powerdown with the xfce menu anymore. It complains that HAL does not provide the correct rule? I am in the power group (and it worked fine before the upgrade).

Is anyone also experiencing this problem?

Thanks,
Blind

Re: [Solved and big THANK YOU to the devs] After HAL upgrade...

Some more information.

In rc.conf I have

DAEMONS= ( syslog-ng hal ... )

Now, on boot up, everything looks good.
When I shut down, though, I get a shutdown error for hal _twice_ !?!

I somehow have the feeling something is wrong here - can someone point me in the right direction as to where to fix these issues?

Cheers,
Blind

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem after updating hal and dbus. And my laptops battery isn't recognized anymore since this update.

Hope it will be fixed soon.

Now I downgraded to the old dbus-0.93-1. Everything's running ok now, also hal-0.5.8.1-4. I think the problems depend only on the new dbus update.

did you restarted dbus after upgrading it? Read: http://www.archlinux.org/news/289/

Snowman, I sure did (maybe 20 times?).It creates the correct file in that directory that also has a uuid inside. It does not change the situation here, though.

Re: [Solved and big THANK YOU to the devs] After HAL upgrade...

Ok, even more info:
Before I make use of HAL:

[fred@chucks ~]$ ps -Alf | grep hal
5 S hal 2737 1 0 78 0 - 1404 308247 08:29 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/hald
0 S root 2738 2737 0 77 0 - 724 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-runner
4 S hal 2744 2738 0 76 0 - 490 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-acpi: listening on acpid socket /var/run/acpid.socket
4 S hal 2755 2738 0 75 0 - 490 evdev_ 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-keyboard: listening on /dev/input/event0
0 S root 2764 2738 0 78 0 - 480 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/hdc
0 S root 2901 2738 0 78 0 - 481 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sdc
0 S root 2903 2738 0 78 0 - 481 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sdb
0 S root 2905 2738 0 78 0 - 481 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sdd
0 S root 2907 2738 0 76 0 - 480 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sda

The next thing I do is trying to shutdown using the XFCE menu. Then I get

[fred@chucks ~]$ ps -Alf | grep hal
4 S hal 2744 1 0 76 0 - 490 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-acpi: listening on acpid socket /var/run/acpid.socket
4 S hal 2755 1 0 78 0 - 490 evdev_ 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-keyboard: listening on /dev/input/event0
0 S root 2764 1 0 78 0 - 480 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/hdc
0 S root 2901 1 0 78 0 - 481 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sdc
0 S root 2903 1 0 78 0 - 481 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sdb
0 S root 2905 1 0 78 0 - 481 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sdd
0 S root 2907 1 0 76 0 - 480 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sda
0 S fred 7990 7684 0 78 0 - 1000 pipe_w 08:49 pts/0 00:00:00 grep hal

So /usr/sbin/hald has exited.
Next experiment:

[root@chucks ~]# /etc/rc.d/hal restart
:: Stopping Hardware Abstraction Layer [FAIL]
:: Starting Hardware Abstraction Layer [DONE]

I get:

4 S hal 2744 1 0 76 0 - 490 - 08:29 ? 00:00:00 hald-addon-acpi: listening on acpid socket /var/run/acpid.socket

Broken HAL rule?

Re: [Solved and big THANK YOU to the devs] After HAL upgrade...

hi there
i cannot mount cd or usbstick any longer. Gnome 2.16.3 gives me:

Cannot mount volume
Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply.
Message did not recieve a reply (timeout by messagebus)

Is this related to hal/dbus errors!?
Any suggestions?

THX!!
