Weird network problem

Hi,

since a few days I've a weird network problem. Every time I start a P2P program, open a lot of tabs in my browser or anything else which requires  some connections at the same time my network seems to "break".

That means i cannot even ping any server (neither my router nor any internet server. Thats why i suppose the problem isn't my provider). It mostly works again after a few seconds/minutes but sometimes i have to restart /etc/rc.d/network to get it working again. I could not find anything helpful in my log files, everything appears to be 100% fine.

I'm not exactly sure, but maybe I have this problem since I upgraded to Kernel 2.6.19(-beyond).

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Some config stuff:

/etc/rc.conf:

HOSTNAME="ArchBen"
lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
eth0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(lo eth0)
gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
ROUTES=(!gateway)

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng !hotplug !pcmcia network netfs openntpd crond portmap dbus hal)

/etc/hosts:

127.0.0.1               localhost.localdomain   localhost

/etc/resolv.conf:

nameserver 192.168.21.1

Re: Weird network problem

Hi ! Sorry to step in wink But I have a very similar issue (I had it under Ubuntu, as well) :

(ASUS A8V-E SE, Neuf telecom, Triod 3D modem in router mode)

My PC seems perfectly stable. However, when running Amule or KTorrent, systematically, within a few minutes or hours : either the PC freezes completely, or I notice I cannot ping anything anymore, suddenly, not even the router. (destination host unreachable). Frequently, after a few minutes, the systems then freezes too.

Does anyone have an idea ? I'm trying to reduce the number of connections in ktorrent. However, what I don't understand is that the issue brings down the whole machine...

Thanks a lot for reading my annoying blabbering smile

Re: Weird network problem

My system is on gigabit network... when I transferring files over the network my system either 1) gets heavy I/O and system crawls to an unusable state (it eventually comes back to responsive, but happens again and again and again...) or 2) freeze. This only happens in Arch, Ubuntu and SuSE is fine. Seems like the netstack needs to be looked at? smile

Re: Weird network problem

has anyone had any luck with this issue?   i'm having a similar problem with ktorrent, but only since adding a second router to my network.  that is:

old setup: my desktop machine was plugged directly into my dsl modem/router.  ktorrent worked fine.

new setup: i now have a linksys router/WAP/switch plugged into the DSL router, and my desktop is connected to that.  now when i start ktorrent, ktorrent itself seems to work but i can no longer surf the web (i seem to have the same problem honkl describes).

any thoughts on where the problem could lie?  i will gladly RTFM if someone can tell me which M to R!
