hi
i just finish install xorg and gnome
pacman -S xorg
pacman -S hwd
hwd -x
hwd -u
copy /etc/X11/xorg.conf.hwd to /etc/X11/xorg.conf
pacman -S gnome
pacman -S gnome-extra
now i'm tring to load gnome by
gnome-session
but i get eror
(gnome-session: 3281) gtk warning **: locale not supported by c library.
using the fallback "c" locale.(gnome-session: 3281) gtk warning **: cannot open display;
the pro' is gnome or xorg?
there is any way to verify the xorg work correctly?
u have any idia how to solve this?

In your ~/.xinitrc add:
exec /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-session
and comment out the other exec lines. Then run startx to start gnome.
I think you also need to uncomment the locales that you use in /etc/locale.gen then run locale-gen.

You probably didn't intall the needed xorg video driver. What was the exact error message or what video card do you have?

what aexactly are the errors ? as snowman suggested it prolly has something to do with the gfx driver not installed...(what gfx card(or onboard chipset)) do you use?
maybe pastebin ( http://pastebin.archlinux.org ) your /etc/xorg.conf
and also, there is a local issue.
edit /etc/locale.gen and uncomment your locale | mine;
en_GB.UTF-8 UTF-8
en_GB ISO-8859-1
after that exec > locale-gen

i install nvidia driver and now gnome work.
1)in arch, there is not graphic package manager?
2)i install firefox , but not the new.
i downloaded the new (firefox-2.0.0.1.tar.gz) for my hd

Glad you got gnome working. In answer to the other questions:
1.) As standard arch does not come with a graphical frontend for pacman, but one of the users here has written a frontend in java. Search for "Jacman" on the forums and you will find it. I Haven't used it but it looks good.
2.) The current version of firefox (2.0.0.1) is available from the current repository. You might just have to refresh pacman (pacman -Syu). To install the tarball you downloaded, the best way would be to make a PKGBUILD for it; for how to do this you would have to read the wiki. Since the version you are after is already in the repository, however, that is probably your best bet.

wel uless you can see a visible difference in the refresh rate,
i'd sya it's being reported incorrectly... as mine do
my monitor supports 60hz@1280x1024;
reported as 50...

Yeah, I can see a config, but are you sure that your X-server really is using that one that you have posted? Because with these settings set your x-server should only know this one resolution and I can't think of any other reason for your x-server to ignore your settings than your x-server not using that configuration file.
Either way you might want to check the log-file as well (to see what config file your x-server is actually using and to see if you can find any other hints to why "it's not working").
